They were the best line last night which is too bad because the brain trust in here decided after the Friday game that he sucks.

I'm not really sure who they'd replace him with anyway. Hyman isn't really an upgrade or much of one and Keefe really wants that third line. Robertson was a possibility but that's gone.

I personally like the idea of 14 minutes or so a night, mixing in other guys. It's been three (frank)ing games

He looks like more of a top 6 NHLer than Thornton does so far, and that's not a compliment to Vesey. 🤷‍♂️

I don't care that Thornton scored a goal and that line was great, I'm pretty sure you or I would score the odd one playing with Matthews and Marner.

Thornton through 3 games honestly looks more cooked than Marleau did in the end here.

I don't care if he's sous vide'd. The line looks good after three games. He's making league minimum or close to it and he gives Keefe the flexibility to actually run three good lines.

But hey, I'm open to everybody's cool ideas. Let's break up the third line and move Hyman back up. That's a proven playoff winner.

About 20 years ago, an old timer named Ray Bourque played for Colorado finished second in the Norris Trophy voting to Lidstrom, played 80 games scored 59 points was a great player (8th overall selection) Age 40 when the season ended and he hoisted the cup. Now Thornton will be 41 at the end of this season - being a local boy he is as motivated as hell to win, he was a first overall pick in the draft, he is by a wide margin the highest scoring player in the NHL currently playing. Will he have a great season? It would be speculation either way to say. One thing is certain, Thornton has way more skin in this than Bourque had - he's a local lad. I'm not betting against him, maybe UG can use his FACTS to claim otherwise

What I would like to see for a game:

Matthews between Marner and Simmonds. (Simmonds is there to forecheck, puck battle, stand in front of the net, punch people who crosscheck Matthews and just let’s M&M do their thing)

Tavares between Willy and Hyman(replacing Vesey with Hyman makes this line so much better)

Kerfoot between Vesey and Soup. (Still a decent 3rd line)

Spezza, Thornton and Barabanov(meh, what can you do? Better than most teams 4th line. Jumba can still get a few shifts with M&M once in a while).

So Thornton looks fantastic in his last game but because he looked marginal the first two games we shouldn't give the line more games together?

I think he's earned a further look on the top line and I don't see how we're debating his usefulness on it after they literally provided the entirety of our offense in Game 3 with each scoring a goal.
