Sadly, you're asking the wrong question. When he got drafted he had the option to refuse to play for the team that drafted him. When he signed a contract he made a commitment and the team made a commitment to him. The CBJ has spent time, money, effort, and other things to help PLD reach his potential as a player. Now it seems he wants to dump the agreement he made to a team.

Breadman held to his commitment, PLD has not. That's why this whole situation stinks.

On a macro level, while the NBA is not exactly like the NHL, what you have today in the NBA is in essence the English Premier League, with five or six teams that dominate the league and 14-16 also-rans who cannot compete for top players or build a dominant roster.

The NBA is a two-tier league, you have maybe five teams at the top since they can attract the top players, and then 20-25 teams that are second-class teams that have no hope to ever best the top teams.

If the NHL goes the way of the NBA then just cut the number of franchises back to maybe six or eight teams. Because there will only be six or eight teams that will be able to compete for the Cup. The others will be destined to be minor league teams with inferior talent.
