No need to name a captain this season. I’d give the young guys another year to develop without the pressure of the C.

Give the C to Zajac. Likely his final season and he's in his 15th season, and about to hit the 1000th game milestone in 7 games! Every one of those games dawning the Dev's jersey. I don't see how that can be ignored when there are no other candidates.

Aaron Dell on waivers.....here is your shot at a better goalie!!

If they want a legit NHL backup he’s a good pickup; but I get the feeling they’re going to ride it out with Wedgewood.

For a team with 44 weeks off between hockey games having one bad period to start the season is not surprising. Ruff deserves credit for this overall quality play; but it’s going to be hard getting scoring out of this group because we simply don’t have the horses. Not to mention being down Bratt and Nico. Lindy will get the defense more involved to help but it’s a problem. That said we had a few good pushes with some offensive zone time and that was a good sign.

To me, PK looked a little better then I remember him. Murray and Kulikov looked very good too. Best of all Ty Smith finally had a good camp and getting on the scoreboard is great for his confidence. Vats will help too so the D looks very respectable with everyone health.
I wouldn’t compare Ruff to Lemaire but I sure feel better about him after two games then when we hired him. But it’s two games and there will be hard times ahead.

I didn't mean to compare Ruff to Lemaire in terms of coaching greatness, just with age and experience to help steer what was a lost team. I'm referring to Lemaire's 2nd stint when our players looked like they forgot how to play hockey under MacLean. I'll never forget that presser. He said it all. He was as mystified as anyone.
I wouldn't say our D looks VERY respectable.. but just respectable lol.

being that Zajac will likely be gone in a few months, and the season only 56 games, it may be best to just roll with some A's for now and see who emerges as the clear leader, combined with who will be here next year (Palms). Murray spoke really well at his presser. I know Severson has been her for a long time, but Murray's demeanor was that of a mature leader, and he has the play to back it up. I know it's just 2 games, but so far, just 2 games, he's looking like a player I'd like to keep. Not sure how much we'd get for him on the market considering what we gave up for him and his injury history. Vats is probably a better piece, especially considering Vats is 2mil vs 4.6. Nico and Palms are obvious choices for the C.. though neither screams captain to me, more of A guys for now. Maybe Hischier matures into that Captain material. I'd rather him just do his thing and develop for now.

True. I meant very respectable like a real NHL defensive squad.

Great pickup. The waiver wire could be very useful this year.

Comrie is is non-roster and on the COVID protocol list for 4 more days. Dell will be moved to that shortly for 7 days. The Devs have some time to figure this out. Expect Wedgewood to remain active until then
