Fake news!!!

Mike Sielski is an Enemy OF THE People!

Funny aside, Crossing Broad has a story on it that is somewhat informative.

Just read Sielski's Twitter feed. Seems like a good guy, and witty.

I’ve had it a couple of times....just hurts a lot for the first few days. Then it calms down. Hopefully he’s back to start February. Not overly serious, just takes a bit to heal. You come back to quickly and you could aggravate it.
- landros 2

Fack. I hope it's the same as what you had and he does come back soon. Well, our forward depth is about to be tested for sure now.

Update just came: Sean Couturier will be out a minimum of two weeks with a Costochondral (ribcage) separation, per Chuck Fletcher.

That is painful. Cough or sneeze and it absolutely cause lots of pain. Healing time up to how the individuals body responds.

There was this part of it that also bothered me. Would he also use that language in a NHLPA conference call? With Dave Scott? I guarantee you he has a filter.

Without getting into justifying whether Sielski was accurate or not or what his motives were, the fact that this occurred a year after incident, and was unprovoked, and in a forum which is public and televised, and unequal in the sense that athletes can say what they like and get the wrist-slap of a fine while journos would lose their job if they retaliated in kind makes me believe that Jake was, at least subconsciously, both enacting revenge and pulling rank.

That, and the unprofessionalism, does bother me. I hope he gets a good hard fine. And sure, I am not personally bothered by the language.

Having watched this dude for a long time, I think he is a very good guy, and has great skills in some parts of his play, but I also think there is not much between his ears. Dude is as dumb as a post.

Very good point, which is relevant if true.

Just seems like a mountain out of a molehill.

My reaction was also, frankly, a carry-over from the echo of some recent times, more in the national domain, regarding treatment of journalists in public (I need hardly elaborate).

I think journalists are a valuable resource, and I would like to see a bit more respect for that profession that is often thankless.

- PT21

Journalists that put misleading information and do not correct the record accordingly deserve nothing but the worst. Glad Jake called him on his bullpoop even at the expense of one little weasel fan that got offended by a no no word

My definition of indifference: If we had interviewed Voracek the next day, asked him for a comment on AV's assessment and he rolled his eyes or tried to stifle a grin (and I've seen that with some players, although not under the current coach), indifference would be the message no matter what words the player said.

By the time the coach is talking to the media in the locker room after practice, the players who haven't already left are done with their own media availability just go about their business: chat with one another or the equipment guys, check their text messages, head off to take a shower, or whatever. They're on their own time at this point.

Mike isn't some newbie reporter. He knows the flow of a typical practice day, and he's been around plenty of locker rooms.

- bmeltzer

That would be disrespect, one step beyond indifference, to me (your first para).

Fair enough points after that. I understand the point you are making re: Sielski's column.

Respectfully, I do still think Bill, that the reaction was unfortunate and disproportionate to the offense. I do see greater echoes of privilege than you do, beyond just this good-hearted dude who speaks his mind.

Do you know the context of this, and what this man tried to do regarding Linux?

You wonder sometimes when these guys hit “send”. If they look back and have regret? When I’m siding with the response Vorecek gave by no means do I pretend to know sielski ....maybe that’s one of those things you better get used to as a journalist.

Seems like it, sure.

Most people in life are are decent guys. I have not met anyone on HB who is not a decent guy, for example.

OK, Bill, thanks for humoring me. Enough of this invigorating skirmish from my end. I am retiring now to the 2nd 1/2 of the pot roast and then to pick up my soy milk from Whole Foods.

(I really hope they have the Lost Bread shortcake.)

Not taking anything away from the Flyers but the Penguins didn’t look right during the playoffs and they didn’t look right their last two games against us. It just might be their time. I think we should wait on our next real challenge and see what happens. Everyone is getting their feed wet again.
- SuperSchennBros

The Flyers didn't look right in the POs either and they certainly didn't look right these past couple of games.

In your opinion, who plays with Provy? Continue with Braunn? Substitute Ghost when he returns? Or, Myers and break up line two?
- leon neon

When Gostisbehere returns, he will slot in and we'll see how he does. If he doesn't hack it then they can try Myers or Sanheim. Flyers also have defenseman in the pipeline. Obtaining a top pairing defenseman at this point in time is unlikely and cost prohibitive.

Honestly, what don't you get? It was not unprovoked and based on what Sielski wrote, he didn't face any repercussions from. You want to eliminate factors from the situation to suit your premise. Trust me, Jake Voracek is not concerned about you calling him dumb. Being called dumb by you is a badge of honor.

Jake has become too American and lost some of the better aspects of his background.

- PT21

You're really exposing yourself here. Stereotyping people and judging them. It's really unfair of you to do so with Voracek not being able to respond.

I was not trolling, in case you are referring to me. I was quite serious. If I feel sufficiently serious about it tomorrow (unlikely), I will write a latter to the Flyers and the NHL asking for punitive action.
- PT21

I’m gonna need an explanation. The Penguins have a recent culture of winning. We haven’t in awhile, along with being a bubble playoff team. So how is it we didn’t look right, especially when we shot ourselves to the top in a round robin. So what do the Flyers normally look like?

I just ran the press conference and context by my wife, who is not offended at all, and found Jake funny. And she is highly sensitive to such power plays.

I feel so alone in this world, and so misunderstood. Thank god there is warm soy milk for me to drink.

Yes, more significant than a personal kerfuffle then. Linux was so much in the public interest, and had such utilitarian aspects being open source. Linus T is kinda playing Robin Hood.
