I’m so excited for this game.

The good:
- JoMo-Niku top pairing
- Jansen HarkINs
- This game will be insanely high event

The bad:
- No Laine

The HOLY SH*T ITS ACTUALLY HAPPENING
- Logan Stanley VS the most rush-happy team in the NHL

- Rexypoo

Harkins is in? I'm hearing it'll be Vesalainen but he'll likely be on the 4th line... 👎

I literally laughed out loud at this.

A dman should be carrying the puck out and passing it off to the forwards, ultimately a dmans job is playing defense, as for chipping it off the glass well if you're angled off or the forwards aren't in position then that is likely the safest play.

In this day and age, the “stay at home” defenceman cannot effectively exist.
You need your defencemen to be skilled and capable enough to be active in the offensive side of the game.

Do you not find it suspicious that the moment we lose our 3 most common “giveaway machines” in Buff, Trouba, and Myers, we’re suddenly spending way more time in our zone? Isn’t it weird how Morrissey’s game took a sudden nosedive around that same time? That would be because those 3 were always transitioning the puck.
Morrissey was pass first, Trouba would carry. Enstrom was pass first, Buff would carry. Kulikov was present on the ice, Myers would carry.

There is a reason the best pairing in the play-ins last year was Oleksiak-Heiskanen. That reason being because they were both incredibly active in all 3 zones, and were a perfect match of strengths and weaknesses.
Offensively, Heiskanen was very good at passing and carrying the puck up the ice, while Oleksiak was excellent at carrying into the offensive zone and attacking from the blueline.
Defensively, Heiskanen was excellent at diffusing the rush, and keeping top forwards to the outside with his speed, while Oleksiak was great at stopping players at the blueline to force dump-ins, and breaking up the cycle in zone.
They were perfectly tailored to play with one another. This is why you suddenly saw Oleksiak go from an okay bottom pairing bruiser, to a genuine player. Trouba leaving is the reason Morrissey suddenly looks worse, and why he stayed that way until DeMelo kicked Poolman off the top pairing.

Josh Morrissey is not an elite defenceman. He is not a peak Karlsson, a 2014 Doughty, a Letang, a McAvoy, or a Hedman. He is not an all-encompassing super talent that can carry any partner. If you put him with a poorly matched partner of lower skill, he will play down to that level.
This is why I think Niku will be good for him. Morrissey is by far the superior player, but Niku’s single greatest skill is Morrissey’s single greatest weakness: carrying the god damn puck

I don't think anyone thinks Morrissey is another Karlsson, Hedman, 2014 Doughty, etc....
Just let him be the best Josh Morrissey that he can be.

This information made me change my predictions. Scheifele will for sure get over 24 minutes.

The player that will benefit the most from Laine being out is Ehlers. He will definitely get more ice time than Lowry now (hopefully)

And, finally the Jets still win this game 4-2. Ehlers with that hatty!

Precisely my point! Give him Niku, give him DeMelo, or give him off-side Heinola. Nobody else will make it work as a top pairing.

Ultimate showing good spirit here lately. Stanley will be interesting to watch. I'm going to miss the other big guy "Hatrick the Beast" against the Leafs though. I was looking forward to him being in that matchup because I have a bet on the Jets vs Leafs matchup for the season.

I read somewhere that he is a play driver.

Paul Postma update

The good news: 6 goals, 12 points in 11 games.
The bad news: He is playing in an Austrian league, were everyone seems to be over the age of 30.

After a slow start to the season, the Jets play 6 games in 9 days. Chevy/Maurice also had the chance to object to this schedule but chose not to.

I haven't looked at the Dallas Stars schedule but you have to imagine it's going to be quite brutal.

Bottom line is that you can see why any team would want to be super cautious when it comes to even the slightest concern about a player having Covid because it can quickly ruin a season for a team .

I see this game as we are missing half our D! No way our regular 6 D by game 20 doesn’t include 3 of Heinola, Samberg, Demelo and Poolman
That’s a big loss, being down 50% of your D.

Have to stay out of the box, the Leafs have not been good 5v5 but their PP has been very good .

Further to this, its highly important to monitor ice times and goalie starts to prevent burnout!

It's highly likely the Laine injury is a rotator cuff, probably his right side. Likely inflamed but hopefully not a slight tear. Hence the precaution because a worsening tear in a rotator cuff can take months to heal. Another option would be that he took a shot to the ribcage.

Rough start, think I've seen every Jets forward turn the puck over in the D zone, so many weak lazy passes.

Logan Stanley looks great!

The man is already becoming my new favourite Jet defencemen

Stanley looks fine but can Maurice please bench Sami Niku PERMANENTLY. This guy is an absolute disaster. He cost the Jets the first goal on a stupid penalty, has looked horrendous on almost every shift, and then once again looked terrible on the Leaf's second goal. Heinola will be in the lineup in no time and it will hopefully be the last we see of Sami Niku. Good riddance !

Right now the score after two is Sami Niku 2 - Winnipeg Jets 1

The penalty Niku took all started with him making a one handed pass that got picked off and led to the offensive zone pressure by the Leafs and eventual penalty by Niku, he had time to make a better pass too.

On the second Leafs goal the Jets wingers should be covering the Leafs dmen, Holl was wide open.

Agreed. Watch the second Leaf goal. First Wheeler yells to Niku to take Marner as he heads around the net. Niku is late and throws a light stock check. Marner beats him easily and then Niku instead of heading back to pick up his man near the net goes for a skate instead and his man ends up getting the rebound. Brutal choices.

LOL! A year ago you were telling everyone Niku was a top 4 dman for the Jets, now you're done with him.

Niku might not be a top 4 d-man. Stanley though, holy moly, that man is a beast.

I want him in every game for the rest of the year. I see star written all over that guy. I always believed in him!

Lol he was singing Niku’s praises in training camp this season.

Niku was not responsible for the Marner goal.
Niku was on Matthews trying to stop the pass, and Morrissey took the wrong guy in front. Scheifele was on Hyman when Morrissey went over to shove him.
