I do remember that contract now that you guys mention it.

But like I said back then if Weber had done that to sundin then Domi would be the next guy over the boards.

That instigator misconduct changed a lot of things... correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t a guy get a 1 game suspension now too if assessed an instigator penalty with less than 5mins to go?

- Dozzer

46.12 Instigator in Final Five Minutes of Regulation Time (or Anytime in Overtime): In the last five minutes of a game or in overtime, any instigator penalty automatically incurs a game misconduct rather than the simple 10-minute misconduct.

I fully expect another Simmonds and Chiarot fight the next time they play.
- PatC80

Not sure Chiarot wants a round 2.

He's not really a fighter, just a big physical player that fights sometimes.

And losing him for 5 minutes isn't worth getting into a scrap with a 4th liner.

basically the same team lost to a homer zamboni jockey last year🤦‍♂️

this makes every game very exciting no matter what happens👍🏿

it reminds me of woman’s softball👍

wow! this group might make the playoffs again!😍

dubass should fire queef and give trotz an offer he can’t refuse👍🏿

if he can’t get that done, he should fire himself and rehire sweet lou to continue his journey to championship team building👍

dubass reminds me of jfj jr🤦🏿‍♂️

what a (frank)ing joke🤦🏿‍♂️

edit:nice alliteration 👍

It's not like it's the first time it happens either!

That did not look like a hard cross check at all. Ive seen harder then that in beer league It looks like the stick was ready to break. Cernak hardly even noticed it.

He will not have that option if he continues to attempt to injure the Leafs star players.

I think people are just getting a little more intelligent and realizing they don’t need star players hurt over something that barely has an impact in the game but has a high risk of injury.

And if the NHL is going to keep the ridiculous 82 game schedule then you need to take care of the players.

- Santo_44

Yes they do...

Hockey is fine in Canada, always will be, but for its continued growth in the states the league is going to need their stars playing and not sidelined with avoidable injuries

Well Matthews could just not stand in front of the net.

Problem solved!

So the Babcock tactics?
- MaximusAurelius

Comparison is pretty much irrelevant since those back to backs were against other teams with one team usually being rested. Who you start would be a factor of whether you wanted advantage in game one. Two teams playing each other twice is a level playing making these considerations irrelevant.

But you knew that. People in glass bubbles shouldn’t chew gum.

Matthews needs to learn to be a little more dirty.

Spear the mother(frank)er next time.

Either way, the Leafs will just tell Bogo to go out and do it to their star player. It wont always be a fair trade off (MTL doesnt have a Matthews) but the message will get out.

Gallagher must have received a thousand crosschecks in front of that net.

Don't remember anyone complaining about it. Especially not him.

Not if you include that Sergei Federov contract mishap, where he ended up getting $23M for 1 year..
- PatC80

Fedorov wanted out of Detroit because he didn't like Yzerman getting the adoration while he didn't. He said if his name were Sam Jones he'd be loved. Detroit was coming off winning a Cup in 97 and lost Vladdy Konstantinov to a terrible limo accident.

Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch Sr. and Carolina owner Peter Karmanos hated each other. That's another story. So Fedorov was a RFA and held out to start the season. Carolina signed him to a 6 year/$38 million offer sheet. Including a 26 million dollar signing bonus up front.

Was the pen heavy? So Ilitch matched of course. He wanted to win more Cups which he did. Fedorov ended up making 2 mil a year for the remaining 5 years. He became a UFA in the summer of 2003. Ilitch made him an offer months earlier of 5 years 10 million per. Feds said he had to think about it. Ilitch was done after that.

Each offer Holland made after that was less. The last offer Holland made was 3 years 6 mil per. Feds then signed with the Ducks (Bryan Murray) as a UFA. Feds turning down that offer was good for Detroit. His game really fell off the cliff when Burkey traded him to Columbus.

I remember just last year there being a big ordeal about Gally getting knocked around in front of the net.

There was no such thing.

The only "ordeal" about Gallagher last year was him getting crosschecked in the face in the playoffs, getting his jaw broken in the process with no penalty called on the play.

Then he should stop cross-checking Matthews....
