If it wasn't for the horrible level of compete from Matthews and Marner, I would suggest that he was the problem. He probably is the problem, but that doesn't excuse what we have seen from M&M.

We have a rotating door of defensemen for years now and yet somehow it never improves.

At some point, do you think maybe management starts to wonder if the problem is maybe not all about the defensemen? Could it also be the goaltending, the forwards and the coaching.

So (frank)ing sick of nobody calling out any of the big names, except Nylander, who has his warts, but at least appears interested in playing.

Years ago in my youth I had some tussles with BeatleJohn. His M.O. was always to come in and pontificate from his soapbox. He always assured us Neanderthal-like masses that he was a friend to us all and only wanted to make sure that any optimism about the Leafs was erased by his knowledge and experience. He'd latch on to the internal glass is empty types and spend the nights sharing his wisdom and tell the AA's of the world why they are so smart and why the Glucksy's of the world were so stupid.

The main issue, the king daddy topper as O would say, is the lack of accountability. Dubas let them off the hook with the Babs firing and not setting them straight afterwards. Keefe came in and tried to be their friend, playing music at practice etc.. Now Keefe is pissed, and is quickly finding out that he can’t get through to them. They got paid too much, were coddled by Dubas and it went to their heads. Dubas did them no favours by adding Jumbo and Brodie while parting with two speedy, gritty-ish players in mango and Kap.

They don’t hit, they don’t work along the boards like they need to. They think they can just out skill other teams and that they don’t have to work. It’s gross.

Guys like Zaitsev thrive in a structured environment. The Sens look like they have that now.
