I have a real problem hearing or seeing kids going through stuff. I was a basket case when my son, almost 4, had to have hernia surgery. He did not speak English, so we could not explain to him what was going on. He looked so scared when they were putting him under and he had a death grip on my hand. I completely lost it. A nurse had to walk me out of the operating room.

That is tough on a parent. Geez bro I cannot imagine going through that.

Marner has decided he's a shooter and it's not going well. It's got his whole game off.

I don't think having a grandpa on the other wing who's 'the passer' is helping the situation, he's a mile behind every play and seems to kill more offense than he creates.

That experiment should die now and never be brought back to life.

Agreed.

Interesting that Keefe just said he didn't like the offense, the lack of speed and attack.

I said that earlier... where is the sustained pressure? They never work to get the puck. They never seem to go hard anywhere near the boards.

If you watch other teams attack, and then watch the Leafs, it is really apparent they aren't working hard enough.

Someone needs to explain that most goals aren't 5 tape-to-tape passes and a bar-down snipe. Most goals are from mistakes from hard work and pressure causing giveaways or odd-man rushes.

It’s never good when a player with a muffin for a shot tries to be a shooter. Reminds me of Jason Blake.

It’s a very hard transition to make, especially when your natural mentality is to pass first.

Naw man, that was me being a suck and way over-reacting

I have said this on these boards before.

Blake scored 40 one season. Marner wishes he was Blake.

Unfortunately, Marner is entering the same category for me, a guy with HUGE talent, and very little heart.

It is like this is the culture of the whole team. They need to find where it is coming from and get rid of them. Adding broken down old guys did NOTHING to address the problems that should be clear by now.

- Aetherial

He’s elite talent with an elite contract. He has to lead by example. Idk but he seems pretty full of himself & that tells me a lack of character or entitlement issues. Paid 11m means being a leader & nothing less.

Yes, which is why although I'm liking that third line they need to be split. Because the other lines need workers.

Kerfoot and Mik can stay together but Hyman needs to be with Matthews and Marner.

From what I've seen of Thornton through two games, he honestly shouldn't be playing above the 4th line if at all...

And Andersen should have a leash. I get that it's not all his fault but I'm over the endless excuses for him. He let's in a lot of goals he shouldn't, we know this because he comes back and makes save on far more dangerous attempts. This is why you get a goalie like Campbell, not just to spell your starter but to push him. If Andersen can't cut the fat he should watch Campbell play and that message needs sending right out of the gate.

When you live through your kids you can feel helpless. We cannot do anything for them other than be there for them & be strong & supportive. Even lie to them to help them.

Which is why he needs not be even going there.

Also, you play with Matthews. He will always be the shooter.

Marner needs to stick to what he does best, and work on simplifying it and becoming more responsible with the puck. 🤷‍♂️

This whole try to be a shooter thing has made him an 11 million dollar penalty killer through two games. 🤦‍♂️

Agree & idk what happened to him. He was a great set up winger & played hard on D especially on the PK. Then it disappeared. Time he finds that again.

What is the defect Woder? Is it something they can correct?
- Aetherial

It has been corrected. A major valve was not connected, and they didn’t catch it for a good week or more. You can imagine the problems and issues that occurred as a result, but sick kids to the rescue. The lack of oxygen during that time has also affected his development somewhat.

Yup, that message needs to be sent to the team and should have been sent in the second intermission.

Unless he has something we haven't seen, Thornton is no longer a legit everyday NHL player.

I think I would go Marner with Matthews, Mikheyev with Tavares. The two fastest guys left go with Kerfoot.

In game I’d try Marner at C & let him be a playmaker. Better than the Willy experiment.

Just a small look see

I haven't loved or hated Vesey but that line seems to be the best line through two games so I may leave that one.

But the rest I would change for sure.

Hyman/Matthews/Marner
Mikheyev/Kerfoot/Simmonds
Barabanov/Spezza/Thornton.

Also... I probably bench Dermott and give Lehtonen a look. Not that I hate Dermott... But he looks way to panicked with the puck and Bogo is not reliable or fast enough to cover for his sporadic (frank) ups.

Member Blake’s first year with the Leafs...I member. Soft shot to the breadbasket almost every time. His first shots as a Leaf are similar to David Clarkson’s first shift as a Leaf in preseason.
I literally said WTF out loud both times.

I know this scenario well.

One of my twin sisters was born without a wall between the ventricles of her heart. She was a "blue baby" and had a stroke as a baby. They did do surgery, sewing a piece of teflon between the ventricles. This was around 1968 and was one of the very first times this surgery was performed. She also had some issues from the stroke, eventually epilepsy as an adult. Drugs have the epilepsy under control. She has a pretty much normal life though, good job, married with a daughter. Kids are resilient. Your great nephew will be fine

I feel like Marner got real intimidated by his salary real fast. He feels the heat and as a result feels he needs to be more than a passer. Just my opinion. 🤷‍♂️

That contract was a cancer before the ink was dry on it.
