Ottawa will be horrible again this year.
Their D is worse.
Their forward group got better but lots of inexperience and question marks.
But yes, 6-4 and Brown scores the empty netter. |

So what you’re saying is that they’re not good enough to get away with aggressively cross checking the leafs star players in the back? I’m cool with that |

Mike Johnson had an interesting take on the cross checking in front of the net. He pointed out that the defenseman doing it to the foreword is ok in the eyes of the official but the other way around gets called every time. |

The game is in Ottawa, but more of the empty seats will be cheering for the Leafs..as usual for a Leafs/sens game - senstroll
Based on the artificial crowd noise, this will be the first time that Ottawa has a home game at home vs. the Leafs

I read something that made sense. In a couple games this will phase out.
If someone crosschecks Matthews or marner like that they’re just opening themselves up to the same thing. If Edm does it, Bogosian is just going to bury McDavid in front of the net. If van does it pettersson is just going to get buried in front of the net by Bogosian. Players will knock it back a bit on the superstars. |

I honestly won’t be shocked if this leads to the league defining what is and is not okay when it comes to clearing the front of the net.
There’s no way this hasn’t grabbed the attention of the owners, who consider star players assets, and the owners won’t like undue risk being put onto their assets.
As cold hearted as it sounds I think that’s what will get the job done when it comes to putting an end to that kind of thing |

Careful though, they might not be good enough to receive a crosscheck so hard the stick breaks without a penalty to be called either.

Makes sense... risky placing that sort of thing on a hope tho.
I don’t think a rule change is needed... I mean it’s a cross check.. plain and simple... the refs just need to start calling it |

The league needs to tell the referees to start calling it.
And the league needs to send out instructional videos indicating what's fair and what's foul.
But they won't. |

This is what I was thinking. It's going to be weird for both teams. Toronto players are going to feel strange when the crowd isn't all Leafs fans cheering for them and booing the Sens. The Sens will feel weird for, well, basically the same thing. |

It's Ottawa's season opener; Murray should be starting. Makes sense to start our starter in response. The backups can go tomorrow. - Monkeypunk
Ideally, Murray also starts tomorrow, after being mercy pulled in the first tonight.
But this is the Leafs... |

Typical Habs fan - always blaming the Leafs.
You ever think that maybe it was the fault of the equipment on the Canadien? |

Oh I know... Matthews certainly got away with some poop... I won’t deny it
I’m hoping that it was nothing more than rusty reffing and it will work itself out
That’s why I didn’t like what happened to Matthews in front tho... the fact that was happening repeatedly tells me the refs didn’t miss it so much as they were letting it go |
