I think the part you’re missing is that if a star athletes goes down then millions suffer... people pay good money on tv packages, memorabilia, etc... children look up to these guys as heroes, and on and on.

Their job reaches far further than just playing hockey... and that is the primary difference between a regular job and theirs. When they can’t do their job it’s felt on a far wider scale. It’s not all about stats and wins.

I’d rather watch skilled players and don’t think you lose anything by calling penalties that are already on the books. The league would have been better with more Mario

Very incorrect, its been a topic for a long time.

Its being brought up because of the Matthews incident, but very insensitive for you to say that.

- Santo_44

Just curious only...

Did you defend every other superstar on other teams over the years getting abused?
FYI not trolling but I don’t pick my spots & stick up for any player getting abused.

Examples:
Kariya cross checked by Suter
Sedin mugged by Keith
Bertuzzi mugging
McSorley stick swinging

I play no favourites

Weird idea, but how about enforcing the rule that already exists? Seeing how “cross-checking” is a penalty...

I had a couple.

I'm not siding with anyone. I'm just trying to figure out that if we don't want it too be safer, and we don't want it to be more dangerous, then it's exactly as dangerous as it needs to be right now?

I mean, having this debate right now, and the game being exactly as dangerous as it should be right now is quite the coincidence isn't it?

I think he was referring to the hockey fans who always complain about how its too dangerous.

He said he doesn't agree with violent cross-checking.. I really think theres no "there there"

Players should just take care of themselves and not look to the refs

Oh dont start with that poop.

If you want to use that line well guess what? Players that are actually playing the game in the NHL are unhappy with it.

So you want to tell me im wrong because I haven't played the game? Why is Matthews wrong? Because he is too good?

- Santo_44

When was the last time you heard the NHLPA stand up for its players? I don’t hear or see them posting ads & self governing themselves.

Again your words. Never said AM was wrong.

I think the game is fine as is.

Im not outraged by the non-calls last game. Chiarots cross-checks, or Matthews knee.

Every town in Canada needs an ODR. It's not just for kids to play hockey, but for people to get out and skate, enjoy each other company, and bring the community together.

there is a fantastic chapter all about Downie, the Hip, and hockey. Some great passages about Downie playing at the odr in his neighborhood when he moved to T.O. in the early 90's. He would show up with his equipment and mask on (he was a goalie) and join in totally incognito.

There were definitely odrs in my hometown. Just classic memories.

In a way thats right..

Dont look to the refs every time theres an infraction. You'll probably get more respect form the refs that way, and get more calls.

Yeah sorry man but I don't judge people on happiness for how much money they have.

Wether they have 3$ or 100000$ in their bank account their health matters the same to me.

- Santo_44

Health matters to me for everyone also. Where I don’t agree is players know the risk they take to be the elite few that can make millions in a short time where normal ppl have an entire life to work for whatever they get.

Why aren't you outraged about that?

I have a view out to the backyard from the office, and saw a flock of cardinals hanging out. Must have been a dozen total males and females. Pretty cool, never really seen that around these parts.

I always just see them hang out in couples.

Every year they go through phases where they tend to let some things go and then get called tighter. You don’t need rule changes. They have a rule. Matthews agent and others have made some noise that should get some discussion going inside the League.

This happens every year in a whole bunch of rules. Somehow Nightsweat is unhappy that an agent would speak on behalf of his player.

- Canada Cup

I’ll digress when he puts an ad out apologizing for AM’s knee if he’s his mouth piece. 😂

I’m going to cook dinner but I’m not talking about respect or just Auston Matthews. The game will be better if star players don’t leave early because of herniated discs or lose big chunks of the season because non skill players are allowed to hack the poop out of them.

Personally, I’d rather see skilled defencemen box guys out. Shocking concepts.
