its like saying I prefer Bozak to Tavares
BA is pretty useless if you can have a player who is batting .300 who had 3 singles in 10 at bats
but you have another player batting .100 who had 1 single and 2 walks...they accomplished the same thing by getting on 1st 3 times. just use OBP its at least much better to start with.
Grichuk is a career .295 OBP and Springer is .361
over 600 at bats thats 177 to 216 times on base - senstroll
Sort of, except player 1 has had 10 plate appearances; player 2 has gotten out twice more. The odds are that player 1 will be on base more if given more plate appearances. But that's just being nitpicky about your quickly slapped together example.
I agree that OBP / OPS give you a better sense of overall performance, and it includes a better view of situational play (i.e., a pitcher pitching around a guy to get to a weaker player will get a less selective batter out more often, while a more selective guy will draw the walk; conversely a better BA will give you a sense that someone is capable of putting the bat on the ball and getting a bit). If I have a runner on 3rd and 2 out, I want player 1 at the plate, not player 2. |

This is way better. Gives you any game on that night, plus you can even watch games from the day before. Best NHL site I have found.
There is even MLB66.ir for the baseball fans here. |

nhl66 is high quality for sure.
i still prefer Cage because you get more stuff in between the whistles.
the quality is the same, and its kinda sketchy steaming off some site in Russia, even though i use a VPN. |

I was just thinking about the Zibanejad for Brassard trade the other day.
It has to be one of the worst trades of all time.
Ok maybe not all time, but in recent memory. |

for the example, to make it simple I just meant (i updated the original BA to .125)
player 1 had 3 singles and 7 outs (3/10)
player 2 had 1 single 2 walks and 7 outs (1/8)
but you can make it more extreme
player 2 has 1 single, 5 walks and 4 outs (1/5) ... got on base 6/10 times...would look worse than the .300 hitter |

I can understand the feeling.
Now I'm no professional athlete, but I have ripped my achilles tendon twice in the last 10 years.
Let me tell you, running at full speed just doesn't feel the same anymore.

I blew my left one out in 2013. My left calf muscle is about 3/4 the size of my right one. No matter what I do I can't get full strength and mobility back in it. I can't even stand on my toes on my left foot.
Also, it was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. |

I agree with that - my one comment really was just if I have a runner on 3rd, 2 outs, and a poor hitter on deck, I'd rather have a guy up who is capable of being a contact hitter rather than a guy drawing a walk. It's a particularly situational example, but not that uncommon.
One of the stats I used to look at before the stats revolution started to be recognized was a simple comparison between walks to strikeouts and the comparison to OBP. I liked guys who could get on base but rarely struck out. I recognize that there is a perception change or even statistical analysis that says that striking out isn't so bad, but I can't bring myself to accept that (it's better than
a GDP, I know, but . . .). I was always in the courts of the Tony Gwynn and Wade Boggs players. Gwynn had more speed, Boggs had more power, but both were always on-base and both could be counted on to keep a rally going (I'll also grant that citing hall of fame players doesn't really hurt my point). |

6 yrs/ 90m for Lemahieu - mr.sir
I assumed he was going back to NY, just trying to squeeze as much $$ out of them
Source: Dodgers offered LeMahieu 4/60. Blue jays offered him 4/78
Braves were interested. Mets were too.
Also being told he was very close to going to Toronto |

Jays better sign Springer - senstroll
I didn't want LeMahieu, so that doesn't bother me at all. Springer is a guy I do want, though.
The Jays are inching closer and closer to this off season being a complete failure. And it's mostly their doing. If they hadn't of said that they're going after literally everyone, then things would be different. |
