Niku was terrible for most of the night, had a particularly bad shift in the 3rd period, can't see him getting back in the lineup unless injuries really pile up.
- JetFuel

Niku was very good up until his first couple shifts in the 3rd.

I just knew watching that goal against with Scheifele behind the net that Niku would somehow get blamed for being the only guy in the right place. Scheifele went for the blind muffin of a backhand pass straight to Calgary, and Beaulieu was totally by himself for no apparent reason

Poolman had a horrible first but was much better in the 2nd and 3rd. Niku started good but was man handled far too many times and had a horrible third. With that said, I’d take Beaulieu out before either of them.
- Ross77

I also liked the way Poolman jumped up into the play.

DeMelo will be in next game. It will be interesting to see when Samberg and heinola earn a spot in the lineup and what changes will come when that does happen.

Helle looked quite rusty but got the job done. Lewis appears to be a strong skater, reads the play and gets to where he needs to be or should be. Will be interesting to watch his game over the season.

Niku is easily separated from the puck with a shoulder bump and he flys 5 feet the other direction, did not very strong, but lots of rust to shake off.

A+ for Mr. Laine. I like Laine on the edge, looked like a nasty beast!

Laine sure increased his stock last night. Fire in the belly?

Hats off to Laine for proving me wrong....at least for one game.

Interesting that some people think that Niku played well and others think that he did not. I don't think that Niku played well at all.

Well its only one game and I have been excited by him in the past too. Let’s hope its consistent and that Laine has finally found that game we were promised at the 2016 draft.

I hope so too.....I have been critical of him for the past 2 seasons, but have always just wanted him to "see the light". Here's hoping !

Thought Poolman started very slowly but was very good later in game. Think he has cemented his spot with Josh. Think Niku showed why he has not been in the line-up as much as some wanted him to be. Offensive potential though, but still not enough muscle.

Laine had his best game ever as a Jet. Seemed much "quicker" and a lot of poise besides his other attributes. Heard glowing reports coming from camp, guess they were true. If he keeps it up he will have huge season. Showing leadership now.

Once again Helle held us in there until the Jets got their legs.

One thing the players should have learned after the 1st period - if you don't come out skating and giving it 100%, you're not going to win in this league.

The one thing that seems the whole board finally agrees on . An A+ for Laine last night. He was in full beast mode.

Anyone see McDavid make several Canuck's look like pylons on his goal....amazing !!!

I know we’re only 1 game in, but I’m a lot more worried about Morrissey and Beaulieu than I am Poolman or Niku.

-Niku was solid for 2 periods, and the type of encroaching offensive threat we haven’t had since Buff left. If you’re looking for solid defensive zone play, you won’t get it here, but it’s the offensive side he offers and that’s what we need if Heinola isn’t coming in now.
-Poolman was rough early, and is clearly overmatched up top, but is a perfect #6 guy.
-Morrissey was not paying attention for basically the entire game. He got caught behind his man on almost a shift by poop basis in the first half. I’m very concerned, but willing to give him a bye because it’s early, and we know he’s been big brain in the past.
-Beau just played bad. Whatever. Give me DeMelo and Ville.

Also, I think Ross has it right on the defence.

Morrissey-DeMelo
Heinola-Pionk
Forbort-Poolman/Niku

Rotate the RD on the bottom pairing based on need/opponent

I can't imagine what it must be like for them to play without fans. Maybe like it's been for me preaching to a camera the last 10 months?!?!

What I saw in Niku was fantastic skating with ability to get up and down the ice effortlessly. It was the offence from the defense that has been missing and was badly needed while we were chasing that game. I didn’t take offense to his reduced icetime in the third because we didn’t need his type of game then.

You’re doing gods work here. It would be really interesting to have a tier list whenever a player becomes contentious just to see where we’re at on the whole

I just realized that all of Coach Q, Sutter, and Julien won Stanley Cups and were later fired all within the 2010s, while Huddy has been the defensive coach for 10 years here with good results in 2 of them

I see positives in Niku game. To be fair all our D have warts but it does seem
Niku is given less patience or chances than Beaulieu and Poolman

I think we can all agree Heinola needs to go in now!!! No waiting

Baffling, there is no other word to explain Huddy’s tenure here

Especially Laine who played up the fact by raising his stick and pretending to acknowledge the fans, followed by the Laine smirk to his teammates. Loved it.

Don't like the blue all around the rink. It's somewhat distracting. Needs to be black or whatever.
