A lot better defensively than carle. Imo. And if York comes up this year I expect AV to have him be defensively responsible first. Probably playing third pairing. Even guys who qb'd pp at lower levels like sanheim haven't seen the same time in the NHL until they got their regular game right. Which York can do quickly.

While not a stalwart, Carle was solid defensively.

Absolutely solid. I just see Yorks defense is better than solid. I think thats why he gets the kimmo comparison often. And I think thats why most people see him slotting in with provy.

I wish everyone would just slow their roll over the lines until we see how it goes after 5 or 6 games.

The reason York reminds me of kimmo is how he takes his angles and even how he plays close to the body before going for the poke. And is very efficient at it even with larger forwards. Rolling off their attempts and making the heads up play. Hockey iq and anticipation.

The Patrick line, was a -2 in a 6-3 game.... I don't blame Nolan, Jake and JVR suck 5-on-5. The Pen's knew this was the weak link and put Crosby's line out when they could.

Braunn was OK, but not a top line guy. For those thinking that Ghost will be the saviour... you're going to be upset. Again, 5-on-5, Ghost will not play better than Braunn in the defensive zone. Who cares about the offensive side of ice, when you have Provy on a point. Braunn just needs to keep the puck in the zone and not have any giveaways.

I loved that both Sanheim and Meyers were very physical with Malkin, he’s a player that gets frustrated and was on the verge of taking a dumb penalty all night it seemed. Meyers was really using his body tonight. I don’t love Braun on that top pair but it is what it is for now.

I would have like to see them rough up Crosby a little too.

I would think so as well. I mentioned it in another thread. Someone pointed out a potential issue that they both shoot left and like the same side. Not sure how much of a hurdle that is?

Tonight 6 Flyers division opponents take to the ice for their first game of the season. All 3 games begin at 7 pm. Who are you looking to size up? Most interesting match up? Any predictions?

Winning hockey is having the puck more and defending less. While Gostisbehere won't defend better than Braun, the hope is to move the puck better and play in the other end more. That is how Gostisbehere might help the Flyers.

Issue with JVR and Jake is that our top 2 lines are solid and will continue to gel. 4th line is solid in it's role. Neither Jake or JVR should move down in the line up. They can't move up either because it would hurt the chemistry of the top 2 lines. Provy will be getting a lot of time playing when line 3 is on the ice.

When Ghost returns, he will slot in on top pair. It will be interesting to see what coaches saw in camp. Ghost and Gus in same line up concerns me. Thank God we have Cahta Haht.

I don’t think line three would be that bad, if you rotated Frost in as winger for Jake and/or jvr. The two of them together make a horrible combo. Why can’t you bump one of them to line four. Didn’t jvr play line 4 last year?

No one is mentioning this but when I first saw that they moved Jake off the top power play I thought, its the end of an era. Now I think the 2nd PP can be as good or better then the 1st. I would like to see some healthy competition. PP2 is up 2-0 on PP points. After seeing what Gus can do with his shot from the point on the PP, where does that slot Ghost for the PP? Do they drop a forward and go Gus/Ghost? Rest Provy? All I know is we finally have a good 2nd unit.

What makes you think Frost, an unproven player would be better? Move Voracek to the 4th line for Frost? This is as bad as Sandin having a guaranteed spot.

he should help stop plays at the blue better also. Braun will have the advantage in the zone but not with breakouts and neutral zone

seriously...the gnashing of teeth and rending of cloth after one WIN is ridiculous yet typical.

If things haven't improved after game 10, then come back and reevaluate. But the amount of complaining after one game is ridiculous even for this cast of characters.

I love our 4th line. JVR or Jake do not match the style of play. Especially if AV wants them to go against opponents scoring lines. I wouldn't mess with any of the 3 lines (1, 2, and 4). Jake isn't going to magically decide to become responsible in his own end. He's out there to generate offense. We might have to just live with that 3rd line.

I like the idea of Frost getting in but I can't see us sitting one of JVR or Jake.
