It was just one game and I'm certainly willing to give these lines more time to see how they work together, so please don't interpret this post as some sort of over reaction.

Is it wise to have Lindblom & Couts on the same line? Both seem like pretty similar players stylistically. Both have above average defensive capabilities, are very strong at the "little things", and no matter who their line mates are, they seem to benefit from playing with either one. So is it wise to put both on the same line? Would the lineup be more defensively balanced and the team benefit overall by splitting them up?

NHL XM, mentioning the game very little, other lead stories. Why do I think if the score was reversed the headline would be PITT beats good Philly team, Pitt is a contender

I noticed ESPN (maybe it was NHL) doing this last night. They started the Flyers-Pens game recap with Sidney’s goal lol. Tried to talk up Sid and how he dominates us as if Hart didn’t pass him that goal.

Just seeing this on The Athletic this morning. I guess this is confirmation.

https://theathletic.com/2...lindblom-flyers-penguins/

6. Braun wasn’t the coaching staff’s first choice in camp to play alongside Provorov; Shayne Gostisbehere got first crack at top-pair duties once the combinations settled into some degree of normalcy. But Gostisbehere’s absence starting on Saturday forced the Flyers to move to Plan B — Braun — and until Wednesday night, there was no clarification on why he was out.

That clarification came just a bit before puck drop Wednesday. The NHL announced Gostisbehere was unavailable due to COVID-19 protocols. While the league did not specify whether Gostisbehere received a positive test result or if this is a case of a player isolating from his team for precautionary reasons, it’s clear he isn’t battling an injury. Instead, he’s the first example of the impact of the pandemic on Philadelphia’s ability to construct its ideal roster. The hope, obviously, is that Gostisbehere does not have the virus and returns to action soon, but in the here and now, the Flyers will have to do without him.

Somebody mentioned the Pens blogger was adamant about that before the game yesterday, like it would be the Pens' big advantage over the Flyers.

I'm not the type to run into another team's thread to troll after a win, so I thought it would be amusing to rehash the point this morning here.

was me, it was on the Pens blog yesterday

On paper, yes.

But chemistry oftentimes runs counter to what would seem to work best on paper.

One of the beastliest things I've ever seen Coots do... watch how he brushes off the back pressure on the rush. Almost Lindrosian:

That’s to denote sarcasm.

True. I believe I understand your point, and like I said, I'm certainly willing to give these lines more time. But to be clear, the motivation behind my question doesn't have much to do with concern over chemistry between Oskar & Couts. It stems from concern over the 5 v 5 play of the 3rd line, and what could potentially be done down the road if that continues.

I agree. They have to give the lines together some time to see if each works. If it doesn’t work with Jake and Patrick, the simple solution would be to swap TK and Jake. This wouldn’t disrupt the other lines.

About Coot and Lindblom, I have had similar thoughts. But I also think, like most things, you can use it to your advantage and play to it’s strengths. Lindblom can also cover defense for Coots allowing him to be more comfortable going to the net.

It's a tradeoff at the end of the day.

You could try to shore up any perceived weakness on L3, but then maybe you'd be taking away from what could potentially be a foundational strength for the team (a near unstoppable L1).

Oskar/TK and Coots were so terrific together last season.

Not to mention that TK had two really good chances outside of the goal that line scored

Switch jvr with raffl. Or switch jake and NAK. Both lines played similar minutes. Both moves changes an element on each line while maintaining the top two lines. Two forwards who backcheck well in each line and one more offensive minded. Almost all have also played with each other before with some good results.

L1 L2 and L4 were excellent. I dont want to touch any the 3. If someone is issue on the 3rd line you could also insert frost into the lineup.

Weird rumor with the Yandle fallout. Got told to stay home basically. Never heard of him being anything but a consumate professional and he played well last year.

They are saying boston and flyers have shown interest. I dont see the point. Or where we would get the cap space even if Florida retains 50%.

Would have to be gus. Braun doesn't leave you any cap for call ups or trade flexibility. But thats a really bad look to sign someone and trade him 1 game in. And trading ghost if you think hes truly revived would be gross mismanagement

He almost set Oscar up twice. That line will be humming soon.

yes but TK needs to shoot first more, now that Oscar scored TK needs to focus on putting the puck in the net

Flyers have York in the pipeline who may be ready to play after the NCAA season. Not to be over optimistic but he could be the next Cale Makar.

would think switching JVR and Giroux would balance them better.

I 1000% agree and have said that I expect him to be a flyer by years end. Soon as he wins a title with that stacked Michigan team. Yandle is a good vet. Good player. And still averaged 20 a night. He'd be a nice third pairing guy to have. But again that sets a bad precedent if you traded gus right after you signed him

The flyers will have to deal with teams activating their D on a regular basis, much like the islanders did in the playoff series. Flyers have a plodding skater on every line except for line 4. They’ll be forced to prove that they can consistently sting on a counter attack/turnover.

Braun is really going to be a liability on the top pair.
