Neither is Staal or Olofsson right now.

The forward core is 4 really good players in Eichel/Sam/Hall/Skinner and a couple middle six guys and one who looks 36 years old

The idea they were going to have this dynamic powerhouse top 6/9 was always a fantasy

- sbroads24

Just put the top-6 together and I guarantee it'll be better

That almost rhymes so it's definitely true. Just put Skinner there. Just do it

A blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.

Montour somehow is the worst d-man on the team now and it’s not like Risto has set a high bar

- Pegullaville

i thought montour played on his toes the last two games, unlike most every other sabre...doesn't help that his partner has hands of stone, though...dahlin hasn't been good

Oh it for sure will be, but it was never going to be enough to carry the team

They were doomed as soon as they let Larsson leave..... I’m kidding. They were doomed when they did nothing about the goalies and D

Tage was just as bad last night. He's horrible.

Last night he set up a 2 on 1 with a good play along the boards.

Had good coverage in the o-zone to cover for a d-man and made a play to keep the puck in that led to the McCabe goal.

He had a few entries with possession and a few scoring opportunities.

Tonight he was brutal though I won’t argue that.

My take (IMO) - I think he worked his ass off in the offseason to add muscle. So he came in here with high confidence wanting to take a giant step forward. But he is rusty like everyone else due to a lack of a true preseason and so he’s is trying to do much out there instead of keeping it simple. It’s gonna work itself out the more he plays.

You know what’s remarkable?

Rasmus Ristolainen is going to outlive Jack Eichel as a Sabre

- sbroads24

I think jack is dinged up

I would love to see a Bills vs. Browns AFC Championship game.

I also would love to see Tampa Bay beat New Orleans.

Regardless, I think it's safe to say we see a Green Bay vs. Kansas City Super Bowl. Rematch of Super Bowl 1. Can't hate on that.

On the bright side.

If tonight is any indication of how we can play systematically then we can push for the 4th spot.

They did outplay the Caps and didn’t really give up much of any quality defensively for the most part.

The caps really had maybe 6-7 scoring chances the whole night.

Put the best players together, fix the damn special teams, and we really need our goalies to make a save on a high danger scoring opportunity.

Dahlin lacks a serious sense of urgency. He doesn't take charge, like every other franchise defensemen since the dawn of time. I don't know if it's not in his nature, or if he needs time to grow into it, but it's not there. He'll get his points when the season is all said and done, but there's a lack of fire in this kid that is truly alarming right now.

That being said, they played a really good game tonight.

“The most encouraging sign for the Sabres: they gave up 1.08 xGA/60 in those two games vs. the Caps

In 2019/20, the Caps had the 6th best offense in the NHL at 2.44 xGF/60”

Yet Hutton and Ullmark managed to give up 7 goals at 5v5

I think I’d do:
_______-Jack-Sam
Hall-Cozens-_______
Skinner-Staal-Olofsson

Maybe even switch Hall & Skinner?
Play all 3 lines roughly the same amount

If it gets to the point where we are losing in the 3rd, then move up Skinner & Olofsson

Sure would be nice if Quinn, Routsalainen, Mitts or Tage could adequately fill in those blanks though

Glad we cleared this up. But Tage and Dahlin have been our two worst players so far by a long-shot and it's very noticeable. Eakin and Reider should be on line 4, but they're not playing particularly bad. Lazar is junk.

It should be

Hall/Eichel/Reinhart
Skinner/Staal/Cozens
Olofsson/Cozens/Thompson
Reider/Asplung/Easkin

As of right now.

Olofsson is completely useless 5v5. It's infuriating.
