This mess is no more Eichel's fault than it was ROR's fault. And when you inevitably get your way and the Sabres run him out of town as we do with all our good players, you'll realize "huh, maybe it wasn't his fault"

Or more likely, we'll do this again in 5 years with a player not yet drafted

- jcragcrumple

So let's just keep Eichel and watch the team do nothing like they have been for 6 years but hey, we have Jack Eichel.

I guess I’ll just keep asking in hopes you maybe answer

Is there another team who traded ROR and where were they relocated to?

So just keep on keeping on 25th place?
- TheHank

Sure. Keep spinning your wheels and kicking the good players out of town. That's a sure-fire way to get to the top

Yes, for 2 seasons under Botterill while Pegulaville told us that salvation was a Mittlestadt, Dahlin or Cozens away.

We wandered the wilderness for 10 years from 2006-2015 looking for a 1C, and now all of you are so ready to jump back into it. There is recent historical precedence on THIS team to demonstrate that this logic is faulty.

You trade him and you spend the next ten years searching for him

- jcragcrumple

That’s why if you are trading jack, a byfield needs to be the target....

It’s a horrible example considering another team traded him and got better

I'm curious what your logic is based on. Is it that eventually, by dumb good fortune, that the Sabres will luck into some right moves and be good again?

They've made bad moves and decisions for going on over a decade now. What makes you think they'd get another rebuild attempt right?

Do you trust the Sabres management to get that kind of value for Eichel? Further, what makes you think the Kings would do that?

It’s not the same logic at all. What are you even talking about?

The logic in trading Eichel is rebuilding the entire build of your roster

Did we rebuild when we traded ROR

And you have yet to answer what happened to Colorado when they also traded Ryan O’Reilly for almost nothing

- sbroads24

Colorado is not run by a legion of clowns. The Sabres are. That's not a note worthy of importance when comparing the 2?

Sign me up.

Add those 2 to Cozens, Dahlin, etc, and now we've got some building blocks.

I think you have to go in selling high, don't you?

Kings have a ton of great young players. They can afford it, I think.

On a scale of 1 to 10, what is your confidence level with Sabres management that they would pull of a trade that nets a return like that?

I don’t think they necessarily will

But they are proving they can’t figure out how to build around Eichel

I remember when i was a teenager and worked a summer job at the city in public works. Was told to stop working so hard, you get paid regardless of your effort. Working too hard may get ya hurt. And kid, don't make the old guys look bad. Show up, put in a little effort, collect your paycheque. I wonder if this is the culture in Sabreland.

So trade him, crater the team yet again, and hope the magic lottery wheel of fortune favors them in a year where the top pick is a Mackinnon level player and not a player like in this year's draft? Sounds promising.

I just have below zero faith in the leadership of the team making the right decision with a move as massive as trading Eichel.
