I’m not disagreeing with the fact he isn’t a good even strength player, however with some better puck luck he does have a few more even strength goals on the season.

Olofsson shouldn’t kill the top lines production if Eichel and take your pick of Hall/Skinner/Reinhart/Cozens is up there producing as they should be.

I don’t see Matthews or Marner suffering because am 85 year old Thornton is up there

- Pegullaville

Aegism.
At 85, 3/4 of the league wishes they could play as effectively

I was actually there on Monday. We were going to go Tuesday like we often do, but we kind of misjudged the weather.

I never even mentioned Jack.

Over the last 2 seasons with VO, the PP is below average.

And yet his “great, elite” shot is only useful when other skilled guys get him wide open looks that most NHL players would bury.

Olofsson is good on the PP, but it’s not like he’s Ovechkin or Matthews burying ridiculous shots. They are wide open looks

- sbroads24

It's not like he's a top 2 nhl scorer?
That's olofsson's problem 🙄

The point I’m making is Thornton is not a top line talent and he is not impeding on the production of the other two players.

I don’t mind Olofsson getting top line minutes to spread out the scoring.

The bigger issue is Staal is a black hole and not even playing Hall and Reinhart with him did anything remotely positive the last two nights.

Cozens is already a top 6 talent and him coming back will help but they need another body down the middle to get something out of line 2.

It's not nearly that simple. Someone else literally has to create the time and space for his shot.
- Lunaion

If olofsson is doing nothing special, why can't everyone score on the pp?

Every player right?
Sam should have as many goals on the pp right?
Over the past 6 years?

Who was doing this prior on the pp ?

Oh , dave andychuck and 1 other sabre had a longer pp point streak

Olofsson finds open spots. That's why they pass to him.
He's open and has a wicked shot

Can he start with getting one even strength goal before we think about him getting a few?

Similar issues in Carolina don't make you question Skinner just a little bit?
- Lunaion

The similar issue to me is a similar defensive minded coach in Carolina female doging about Skinner's lack of defense just like Ralph.

I think it's a systemic issue with NHL coaches overall in how they don't understand how to maximize players strengths. Instead, they try to make the player conform to their system, even if it's a detriment to their team overall.

Well maybe if they make the goalposts skinnier he would have.

It's almost as if trading for Staal wasn't nearly enough to solidify the Center position, and we won't even mention the great Cody Eakin.

again though the issue is that RK think VO is a franchise forward.

It’s not his salary or his PP play. It’s that he’s being used more than Hall/Reinhart/Skinner on most nights, and he doesn’t have the track record those guys have

Because their entire PP is based around getting him to shoot.

Cozens has a PP goal on like two PP shots this year

It’s not hard to score on the PP. most guys with skill will do it

The great Cody Eakin...

A reminder that the Sabres’ issue isn’t just one or two players not scoring.

Cody Eakin has only one assist in 12 games. Six shots on goal during that span. He was signed to be an upgrade offensively over Larsson. Hasn’t been the case yet.

Eichel hurt also doesn’t help the pp. He rarely shoots or even take a one timer. Something is definitely off

Broads is right about Ristolainen and Montour.

The defense has been minimally worse, if that, with them both out. The team needs forward help and clearly isn't altering from the low event hockey style anytime soon, so trade them for forward help, if that's even possible.
