Except it’s moronic

Thankfully we’ve got Tage now though thanks to that great ROR trade
Can’t wait for him to be a 25goal power forward
😂😂😂

Keep hating though
Meanwhile, ROR has a Cup & we still suck

- jdfitz77

Yeah. am just thrilled we got the three worst years of ROR's career since he was 19-20 years old. It really put us on the map.

He was so close to winning a Selke here too. Got all of 0 finalist votes

I'm sure it would've just gotten better the more depressed he got

Ryan O'Reilly needed a change of scenery. That trade did wonders for his career. It simply wasn't a fit here. It happens.

Given the Pegulas' track record, there probably was a way that relationship could have been mended. Still, he wouldn't get a Selke here, and this team still wouldn't be anywhere near a Cup contender. The problem wasn't moving on from him. The problem was that the return was awful, bonus or no bonus.

We had both of them for three seasons.

In fact the last year they were here we finished dead last in the NHL

And if we kept them we don’t have a few prospects in Dylan Cozens or Ryan Johnson.

I’d rather see how good Cozens can potentially be than keep what wasn’t working around.

- sbroads24

Fair enough, although both individual players kinda fit that difficult to play game.

Gotta be team tough regardless.

You can have a few really good star's that do not need to be "tough". Then you need a wilson, maroon, reaves, tkachuk brother.......

Eichel is tough enough IMO
skimmer too. He's chippy and smiley, evasive.
Girgs
McCabe
Risto
Rieder
Eakins
Larry lazar.

The rest are pretty wimpy.

If you lay a few more eggs

You have to either ship out the players or remove the coach

Can't hoard a losing coach for continually being mediocre

Maybe not
But he would’ve gotten better if we continued to build a good team around him

Shipping out really good players is rarely a good idea

Ror was Wayne Gretzky in Buffalo compared to his replacements.

Very good seams appropriate overall

Kinda like a 4th round pick with 30+ catches and 7 tds

If we built that up around him, you’d have seen better numbers

Stagnant is the worst option

Either move a few players

Or remove the coach

Wins the trade

ROR is gone, he didn't want to be here, was a mess defensively while he was here and we could have had a better return for him if the owner would have picked up his bonus. Funny how he left here and his plus/minus went up like 30pts.

The problem is constant turnover leading to a difference in vision. The weird thing is that Botterill hired Ralph to coach his legion of puck movers when Ralph doesn't want to play that way.

Stability is the way out of this. There has to be a cohesive vision. Not Murray heavies, botterill puck movers and a coach every two years

We where not ready for that trade yet, yes he was brought in to guide Eichel, but we had no depth on this team at the time. Kbow would be the time for a trade like that.

His most common linemates were Evander Kane, Sam Reinhart and Pre concussion Kyle Okposo

It’s a bad excuse that he was saddled with bad players

Jason Botterill and Phil Housley were the biggest "next guy" names the year the Sabres hired them, which was the same year the Bills hired McDermott and Beane. The latter had just as much experience at their positions being first-years as the former. The only difference between the two tandems was that only one of them was actually for real.

I wouldn’t say a mess defensively but he was not nearly the player he was his first year here during the last two.

He wanted to be the #1 guy/captain/leader

After year 1 of Eichel he knew that wasn’t happening.

It was downhill from there

His best year point total wise was his last year here with 61 points and he was still a -23.

He was given a helluva tough defensive workload though

My issue was his bad EV offense
