Why didnt tampa change their goalie, IF The was the problem?

The added toughness, that was the difference.

Same goalie (although he didnt play great), same coach, same high end players.

At least 4 new grit guys. Tough hard to play against guys.

Now we watch a bunch of Nancys with little heart, drive, grit, whatever you want to call it. This team has been soft and easy to play against for wwwwaaaayyy too long.

Seriously. When was the last time you could say, the Sabres are though to play against?

You will get Matt Ellis and like it

I guess the only question to ask...

“Matt, where would you put a $9 million dollar player in your lineup?”

If he answers “in the top 6”. I’ll take it.

he wasn't the problem

tampa was soft
special teams let them down
goal scorers didn't score
no spark plug when they needed it

Good points. Columbus was also more physically dominant. That helped shutdown Tampa.

I'm not sure if a discussion is more cut and dry though.

Team losses in the 1st round
Add at least 4 tough to play against hard asses
Team wins cup with same coach, goalie and top end player's.

Yes torts is a good coach, but tampa addressed toughness, not coaching. The recognized this.
That got them over the hump.

Same reason mario just hired burke.
Physical play and toughness is still part of hockey
A big part.

I will all but guarantee that if Burke builds his team the way he thinks its supposed to be built, he wont last 3 years.

Rumor: John Tortorella Wants Out of Columbus

I will give them Tage Super spinner Thompson for Torts... right now. Send Ralph upstairs.... Ralph and Terry can discuss the fundamentals of Synergy.

Ok. Fine. You are of the Pegula’s thinking that you can NOT hire a coach with an nhl pedigree (byslma aside).... the Swedish beard it is then... maybe he’d fix Dahlin?!?

Early Joe Nieuwendyk is where I figured he’d be, 40-50g 50a and responsible in his own end.

They need to get him a Gary Roberts type winger for him.

And this team needs a Bob Probert type guy, not the just penalty min fighting Probert, but the I’m gonna put up 29g 33a for 63 points all while kicking your face in Probert.

They are in a position with the cap that they could make it work without a ridiculous amount of effort. The question is how much interest does he have in playing here.

I think Green Bay is the favorite given that he is a Wisconsin native, but they have even bigger cap issues.

They could release Addison, Butler and Jefferson that would give you about 18mill. Don't think he's getting 17mill a year. But you're probably loosing Milano but he's probably a goner anyways.

Absolutely but they need a guy that will answer the bell for his teammates.

I’m not talking a straight up goon either.

Bennett is one of those guys to a lesser extent.

Agree, he won't help offensively but would like to see what Borgen could bring, cause he will do that too.

If they really want him, there are multiple ways they can make it work. I'm not worried about that part. The bigger question is: does he have any interest in playing here?

Honestly I always thought Jochen Hecht would become one of the most underrated Sabres in team history.

A player like him could help this team tremendously.

Gritty, defensive minded, and able to put up 45-50 points
