EXACTLY. Why would anyone on this team leave if we got Gibson... We would be back to looking for a longterm 2c, skinner would be in the top 6, happy days would be ahead.
- DirtyDan

Well I haven't traded Cozens in this scenario.

1 first rnd pick, it would hurt to loose Olofsson, but we have players ( Skinner) who could move up. We have players who can take his spot on the PP, if UPL goes we still have Portillo coming up in 3 or so years. I know it's not gonna happen but Gibson could push us over the top.
- Buff36

I'm talking about the crazy trade idea with Cozens.

How does losing OLO UPL Miller and a 1st hurt us. id send 2 if it got us Gibson. Call me crazy for wanting a winning team. If thats the cost do it right now. If we don't go get someone to push this team to the next level say byebye jack and friends.

Taking Cozens out, but how far have we gotten with these players. And ROR didn't want to play here anymore, we keep rolling with the same core and we keep ending up in the dumpster. Do I advocate trading them NO. But would I trade Olofsson, Ullmark or UPL and a 1st for Gibson if that got it done, in a heartbeat. And everyone keeps saying oh Dahlin, well he's gotten worse in the 3yrs he's been here, not better. He's young and definitely could get better but unless something changes with Ralph, it doesn't look like it. Or you go get a top 5 goalie and let the kid loose and maybe we see this generational player we have been waiting for.
- Buff36

These Dahlin tales are a little odd.

He hasn’t progressively gotten worse like you’re insinuating

He had a phenomenal rookie season, a tough first half of last year, and a tough first 5 games of this year, and he’s still just 20 years old.

Hughes is 21 and a tire fire on defense, Makar is in an absolutely perfect situation on maybe the leagues best team.

Trading Dahlin is an all-time bad move IMO

I am not trading Dahlin, just think Ralph is killing him, and think getting Gibson could help Ralph change his system a little and then unleash Dahlin. But if your keeping it the way it is your just letting Dahlin waste away, and then why keep him, I can get the same PP points from Risto.

You've legit suggested it a bunch of times now. Which is fine that you apparently don't like him but I just think it's an all-time bad move.

And I think I said if Ralph is here, then why keep Dahlin, if I didn't I worded it wrong. And there is only a few that should ever be safe from being traded, and unfortunately in my book Dahlin isn't one of them.

Gotta weigh your options. Nothing wrong with saying hey what could we get for X. Or how could we get said player, guys like Dahlin and Cozens are years from impacting this team like Jack does. At this point in time they are replaceable. But you are most likely right it would be a bad move as both will be studs in a few years.

Not asking you to predict the future, just wondering how much better the Sabres would be trading away a top scorer? When they need top scorers, middle 6, top 6 , any way you want to describe olo.
In the senario you provided in an open forum for all of us to discuss.

Should Jack be available, because he has (1) 5 x 5 point?

IMO goal scorers on a goal starved team, pp, sh. 3 x3 , 4x4 , 5x3 , 5 x5 or any other senario shouldnt be moved for Gibson.

If its vaslesky yes.
If it's someone pretending that Gibson is vaslevsky , NO

I like that gibson plays alot, especially with our current tandem and short season, he's American , yearly consistent and signed for a good contract. Good age as well.

Looks like his past 2 years were not his best. Did he peak a few years ago?

- Boss34

So Boss, I think in your exuberance you have a couple bad takes...

Gibson and Vasi and very similar...take a look at their career stats ...you'll b like holy poop HB he's friggin right..
Vasi is 1 year younger, but cost $3m more per year. Gibsons contract might be the best goalie contract not on an ELC...And only going to age better

Jack's 5 + years screams top 5, franchise 1C. So no, he's not on the market for that. Let's not get silly.

Olo is 25-1/2 years old and in his 3rd professional NA season. He is what he is , not some 19 yo with lots of upside. In 65 games he has produced a total of 27 5v5 pts while playing on the top line with Jack friggin Eichel doing all the work...for 56 of those 65 games.

C'mon man, face reality that Olo is a 3rd liner on 5v5 where 75%+ of the game is played. He's a very good PP Specialist though. Combined, he's a 60-70 pts that teams may find very attractive. On the Sabres, with Cozens and Hall now to replace him on the PP IN HIS SPOT, and possibly Quinn or Routsalainen in the future, he becomes expendable in my trade proposal.

Once the 5 on 5 scoring starts a lot of things can change for this team, a top 5 goalie changes the picture for this team dramatically IMO.

I think he’s just started really slow

All of this post is excellent and I agree.
Gibson's contract makes him valuable in many ways
Olo is 25.5 isnt 19.

Only issues is facing reality that he's a 3rd liner ect.

Olo hasnt played enough nhl hockey for you to decide where his ceiling is or if he is gonna improve 5 x 5.

IMO Your IO is a bit premature. Although my seeing olo as a star, is also an opinion. 🤔

Dahlin will most likely play longer than Ralph is coach here though

I don’t think u trade someone that young & talented just bc he isn’t a great fit in the current system
Like you even said....
that system could change if we get better goaltending

Trading such a good young talent like that (at this point) seems like a rash decision imo

Cool, he did play better the last 2 games, but I don't think he's improved in the D zone at all and in Ralph's superb system that matters. Rather just unleash the kid and let him flow.
