If he's in the west I could part with Dahlin but then its more like a straight up Dahlin for Gibson... And if theyre asking more than that they're crazy. They're wasting his talents, and it would be a much shorter re-build if they got rid of him.
- DirtyDan

Just an aside, I'm surprised so many people are okay moving Dahlin.

How do you know Toffoli wouldn't be scoring more here? How do you know he didn't want to come here and would've accepted less $ to do so?

It's impossible to have serious conversations when you make points that no one, even you would have the answer for

- sbroads24

I don’t
But i didn’t make a statement that Toffoli would’ve been a better signing than Hall- YOU DID

All I’m saying is there’s no way to know that
And it’s way too early to even know that anyways

I admitted Toffoli has had a great start
Idk what more u want here?
An actual debate of who we should’ve signed?
Idc
We have Hall, & he’s a very good player
I’m happy with that

I'd rather change the system, but that doesn't seem like it is going to happen.

Miller, Prospect and a first for Gibson
- DirtyDan

Well it wasn’t directed at anyone in particular from what i saw

Not trying to be a d!ck
But we have no way of knowing we could’ve signed him or not
And no way of knowing how good/bad he’d do here

I’m guessing that’s why my response is the only one u got
It’s not worth arguing about imo
Peace out

If that prospect isn't Dahlin or Cozens, I think there is a quick dial tone there. And I don't think we can part with one of them at this stage. Do you?

If he gets us a top goalie in the league id be all for it. They'd want goal scoring so give em cozens. Gibsons been one of the best for a few years now and hes signed for like 6 more years.

If I try to get freaky. Gibson for Mitts, Tage, Miller, 2 firsts(maybe 3), Hutton(for cap purposes), Quinn, one of the D prospects, They can have their combo out of the 7 choices and then we'd get to keep both Rasmus and Cozens.

A man can Dream

Promote the guy then just get him away from the bench.
- DirtyDan

Team President would be a good position for him
Let’s Ralph still “set the tone” for the organization,
but would allow someone else to do the Xs & Os that being a coach involves

So who should we have brought in to replace Hutton?

I'll change the subject

Gibson would change the dynamics of this team for a very long time.
IMO if the Sabres pursue this trade, then they:
- should strive for a money-in/money-out transaction
- should use this as an opportunity to rebalance the D
- offer a 1st Rd Pick to appeal to the Ducks rebuild
- give to get

Olofsson, Miller, CJ Smith, 2021-1st
(Cap = $3.0m + $3.85m +$0.7m = $7.55m)

For

Gibson, Jacob Larson
(Cap = $6.4m + $1.2m =$7.6m)

Letting Olo go would hurt, but if Anahiem needs scoring it may convince them to move on. Per haps Routsolainen fills his spot as early as next season. Miller replaces Guhle at RhD while he's out on LTIR.
Larson is relatively young, needs to work on his defensive game, but projects to 2nd Pairing eventually.

I thought we didn’t need a goalie though?
And it’s pretty unlikely Lehner would come back. He hated it here

- jdfitz77

I truly don’t think we need a goalie. I was just starting a hockey conversation. The price for Kuemper would be too high. The cost for Gibson is over the moon. Of course the price for Lehner might be the only option if he were to be available.
Like you said, gotta keep Jack happy.

I think it would start with UPL & a 1st
Then start adding

I don’t think Lehner would be available
And if he were, idk how much cheaper he’d be than Kuemper- bc he’s signed long term
Plus Lehner would have to waive to leave one of the league’s best teams, to come back to a place that was a horrible experience for him
I just don’t see it happening
But i suppose “anything is possible”

I'd be fine adding UPL, but that changes other things in the offer
Olo, Miller, UPL, Smith, 2021-1st

I'm of the opinion that you should never tie yourself to a goalie long term. Especially via trade. It's such a hit or miss proposition.

I wouldn't give that up for a goalie. Seems like potential for a massive backfire. Jettisoning crap in the form of Okposo (sorry Kyle) is the only way they'd get a 1st, Olofsson and UPL from me. Even then idk

Just makes sense to me that if they’re trading their goalie, they’d be interested in a guy who could be their future at that position

I think the Ducks wouldn’t even consider the above proposal

Think about what you’d want for Eichel
It’s likely gonna cost a lot to get Gibson

Fitz is still awful, the Sabres all have Covid, the NHL is still a Busch league and I supposedly registered 2 or 3 new accounts.

Maybe.
Yet his 27, his contract takes him through age 32, and his SV% have been pretty, pretty good

Having Gibson on the team should allow them to move away from such a Defensive focused system to more balanced and let their Dmen get up ice. Adding Larson, former 1st rounder has the wheels to go
