Those air purifiers cost like $200 each. Do you think the owners want to spend that kind of money? That's upwards of $12,000 to equip each of the 32 arenas with 2

We're going to need more of the awful in-game pop up ads to pay for that

- jcragcrumple

No, those types of purifiers cost thousands and the on-going running costs are fairly high due to the cost of the HEPA Filters costing hundreds$. They likely would need several purifiers at each bench area. And should have them in the Locker Rooms as well.

The cost isn't insurmountable, but it is nowhere in the range you hypothesized.

Maybe they can digitally superimpose a McDonald's logo over the puck to pay for that

You have taken a hard line on the way the NHL has chosen to go forward this season.
What were your ideas?

that would be the ultimate of stupidity. Hey Lehner want to come play for the team that almost killed you.. that will be fun

Firstly that they should have divided the season in half the way the NBA did it. If they felt they "had" to do the awful divisional format, do it for half a season and then reassess.

Secondly, as alluded to above, the divisional format that amounts to 4 separate leagues is in no way an even competitive format. Not only that, it's boring - which is a hallmark of NHL thinking. "What's the cheapest, most boring way we can do this?"

They should have had SOME crossover games so I don't have to watch the Devils 8 times and play the capitals 4 out of the 1st 6 games.

How could you possibly do that with the Canada issue? It would have required an American division to go to Canada for 6 weeks - 2 to quarantine and 4 for play. Is that fun for the players or cheap for the owners? No. I get it.

The other alternative was a bubble and again, the players would have a hissy fit.

So what did we get? More ads (those pop up ads are so obnoxious), a bad format, and a league that has no idea how to effectively manage Covid.

The NHL is a joke and botched the whole thing

His Sv% is way down, maybe his "value" has decreased to make it a good time to buy.
He has shown he can play in this league for sure.

Would he actually consider coming back to buffalo though, he seemed to have burned that bridge...he can control that with his M-NTC

- IonSabres

it would be a major Richard move for Buffalo to ask him to come back

Any talk of MAF getting traded may take a little turn and move Lehner back in play. MAF is making a case for himself and if they can’t move him maybe Robin hits the block and will make his way back to Buffalo.

MAF has been playing great lately type post.

Checks fantasy team and sees MAF Still hasnt played since January 24th 🤔

I'm not sold that it is as horrible as you believe, furthermore the scale of 7 Canadian teams is the differentiator no other league has had to deal with. That became the 1st factor they had to deal with. No, quarantining for 2 weeks was/is unworkable for a) quality of play, and b) the pacing factor of the Olympics.

Bubble was unworkable by the NHLPA, not the league, that option was out before it was in.

Crossover games is an obvious miss, I agree there...yet, losing $40-$60m per team...I get the focus on minimizing travel related costs.

If there is a good thing, fans and players seem to like the 2 game back to back concept. I think we see more of it going forward.

It isn't as bad as you make it to be...IMO, of course.

I have zero interest and I honestly have very little idea of what is happening outside of the Sabres division because it means so little.

The NHL set up back to back games, and yet they chose to do the COvid tests that take days to get a result and not rapid, i assume the save money.

Its assanine that the NHL is the only league to have such an awful Covid Problem.

The NHL chose to put on NJ/Buf knowing that there was a Covid outbreak in NJ.

They managed to somehow while trying to put their product first do more harm than good.

I wouldnt be surprised if we start to see some players just say, im good and just take a LOA for the year

Well, to be fair they have only played 1 game since 1/24 due to Covid postponments.
"Lately" could be interpreted in terms of recent games played vs time based.

Also, the MLB says hi. They had Toronto play in buffalo and they will play in Florida.

1 team compared to 7 yes, but it is absolutely doable.

The Covid issue is not limited just NJ .. same happened with Wild...not sure about VGK.
The NHL stance as communicated by Daly that there is no evidence of transmission during games is certainly " " to me (and most I would guess).

As far as tests go, from what I have read the Rapid Test has such low trigger thresholds that it has a very high false-positive rate...which would likely trigger an excessive number of players missing games and teams postponing games. The PCR Test is more reliable, but takes longer.
It is what it is, and I'm not sure there is a great answer in a compressed schedule scenario. IMO, that is the real issue here...trying to jam too many games in a very short period of time.

In today's society, playing for 10 days
Jan 14th - jan 24th
Then not playing for at least 11 days including today
(1/26 game lehner started)

Lately implies recently most of the time
Oh, let me look back half the season to see what happened lately 🤔

Yea it does
1- small sample size
2- you have no clue if Toffoli would be scoring here, like he is on MTL
3- you have no clue if Toffoli would’ve even come here
4- Hall was an MVP only a few years ago, he’s still REALLY good
5- he’s gonna start scoring eventually, probably sooner than later

But yeah, Toffoli is off to a great start
I like Hall. He’s a heck of a player

- jdfitz77

How do you know Toffoli wouldn't be scoring more here? How do you know he didn't want to come here and would've accepted less $ to do so?

It's impossible to have serious conversations when you make points that no one, even you would have the answer for

Opinions vary

I'm 100% sold that the format sucks, the scheduling sucks, their handling of covid sucks and their penny pinching sucks.

I know benevolent fearless leader Bettman did us all a favor by playing this year, but what they came up with is just about as bad as they could have done.
