We didn’t really “stop” the run with our D-line play
We scored enough to make teams abandon it

The TEN game is an outlier
They passed all over us on the middle of the field
Probably bc we were so committed to stopping the run

REGARDLESS....
the point is that the D-line wasn’t good

- jdfitz77

They need an edge rusher but it wasn't as bad as you're making it out to be. They were incredible against the Ravens. Jerry Hughes was maybe the player of the game

So in a 13-3 season and a 2-1 playoff record it mattered one time - not to mention the Bills explicitly said they wanted the Chiefs to run to keep Mahomes from throwing (obviously that plan sucked)

The sack point I will agree with you, but the run game? Not so much.

They held Derrick Henry to like 53 yards. When they wanted to stop the run, they did

- jcragcrumple

I'd rather pay Milano and do absolutely nothing about the D-line then lose him and sign some 300lb run stuffer.

I swear people are nuts- 13-3 AFC championship game, with an amazing passing offense and good pass defense, so let's go get RB's and D tackles instead of continuing to help pass protection and pass coverage

Nail on the head. It didn't matter what our corners did, with that much time Mahomes is going to find a guy. He was sitting back there shooting hoops most of the night. Need a guy like who Hughes used to be...

I like Quincy Roche in the draft if he falls to us.

I think Jerry Hughes had a good year. I think the LBs lived this season off their reputations from last year, and Edmunds was hurt a lot. I think the secondary covered up a lot.
I think coach Frazier did another solid job.
Its a tough job in the off season for the GM, deciding where to invest to beat KC.

Can the D be improved and the offense kept at least as good? Tough job.

ONLY game the D-line played anywhere close to that level

The D-line was mediocre for the amount we spent on “rotational players” & guys who were healthy scratched

And i have no clue why you’re picking an argument on this subject-
as my point was to back you up about us spending $$$ in the trenches

Isn't it great when a guy gets a long term deal and lives up to it? A solid old-timers day guy if the Bill's were the Yankees.

I don’t think u beat KC when your best pass rushers top out at 5 or 6 sacks

Look what KC did to Allen vs what we did to Mahomes
There’s the ball game in a nutshell

4.5 sacks this year for our $10mil #1 pass rusher is an absolute joke
And 2 of those sacks came against the pathetic Jets

Yes, he had a good game against Baltimore though
But that’s not nearly enough to live up to his salary
He hasn’t had a season with more than 7 sacks in
7 YEARS !!!

They're just a lot better than every other team. Bills included. They're going to spot TB 10-20 points to start the SB then promptly kick their ass.
I also think a healthy Beasley would have helped.

He was lights out in the first two playoff games and good in the 3rd. I ragged on him the first half of the year but he turned it on BIG time in the playoffs with three sacks. His pressure on 3rd down against the ravens led to the pick 6 that ended the game on 4th down. That won't show up on the stat sheet, but that was a pivotal play

Sacks are a terrible way to solely evaluate pass rushers

Hughes was great this year

Was ranked #2 in pass rush win % in the entire NFL

He did his job

The best pass coverage is a good pass rush.

The Bills had 3 pro bowl caliber talents in the secondary and got carved up. Mahomes had all day to throw

Pressures and pass rush win rate % are a better evaluation tool than sacks.

Hughes forcing a throwaway or bad throws with a pressure on 3rd down can be absolutely just as valuable as a sack

We should pump the brakes on Jerry. He played well, he's not a bad player, but he's on his way out. He went from a consistent 15-20 combined sack/tackle for loss guy, to 12 last year, 10 now. His QB hits are similar though, so he's still being effective rushing but doesn't have the same finish as he used to.

He's just getting older. I think they need to upgrade that spot soon. Need to get to the QB faster and take some of the burden off our coverage guys.

He was a monster in the playoffs as crump suggests. At 32 though, what do we expect?

Played well against the Ravens

Take out the Jets game (2sacks) and he had 2.5sacks the ENTIRE REST OF THE REGULAR SEASON

There’s just no good way to spin that

He won all those matchups, yet still couldn’t sack the QB
We need better if we wanna beat KC
Mahomes can be “pressured” & still burn us
Gotta get him down

He was clutch when it mattered. He earned his $10m in the playoffs alone. That said I'd be fine with taking edge high in the draft. Edge, corner, TE and RB are my offseason wishlist

That’s just dumb
2nd or 3rd & 18 is worse than 2nd or 3rd & 10

Just a little info if anyone cares, some players I was told are unhappy with Ralph and his in game coaching due to him not having much structure with the players and his game plan. Apparently also, he has had some " words" with Joker.

No, he’s not
He’s not even “good”

He’s an alright player who’s good at times
But lacking as a #1 pass rusher

Just ask Mahomes, he’ll agree

It’s really not dumb

If someone is consistently pressuring the QB and forcing quicker throws or throwaways that’s absolutely more valuable than a sack every once and a while

Do you know how many players end up with sacks off other players pressures due to the QB stepping up in the pocket or scrambling?

You should just quit having such staunch and arrogant opinions on things you don’t have a clue about
