"Thereโ€™s been a lot of talk about defensive principles. But Buffalo has seven players drafted in the top seven picks โ€” Eichel, Hall, Reinhart, Staal, Skinner, Dahlin and Cozens โ€” so maybe there should be more thought given to offense than defense."

The Sabres will win a lot of games this year if they draw about 5 penalties a game and convert on 60% of them.

Seems like a very sustainable business model

Maybe they can ask the other team if they want switch back and forth from PP and PK every 2 minutes for 3 periods.

Absolutely agree the players need to step it up and take responsibility.

That said, it has taken the head coach 10 games to begin optimizing his lines ...something the knowledgeable fan base has been talking about for ...well, before the 10 games.
He is stubborn to a fault, and seems bent on sub optimizing his roster and is insistent on relying on some players beyond their capabilities
- Tage on L1 multiple times
- Okposo playing at all
- conservative approach with Dahlin
- Skinner w 10 TOI until a few shifts with Eichel
- Hall and Eichel together when they virtually cancel each other out

To not recognize these as success barriers is simply mindblowing

- IonSabres

Really good observations ๐Ÿ‘

it's easier to move on from ralph then move on from eichel, skinner, hall, dahlin, mccabe, risto, reinhart, hutton, montour, joker, tage, casey, ullmark etc
- homiedclown

Good point as well.

Although : eichel is going to get out of buffalo. Its obvious. eventually
Skinner- hopefully he waives and gets claimed
Hall- signed because of ralph (ufa)
Dahlin- still young / worth an all time low, based on his tips
McCabe/ risto - 4 coaches, 5 will be fine.
Playing great under ralph

Sam - if eichels going and we're changing the "core" , he needs to also go. We've seen what he does with out eichel. And - it clearly looked like eichel missed sam ,when the giraffe couldn't keep up
Hutton -ufa and blows
Tage, casey, miller , montour - not core guys.

Blowing up the coach and team might be best

Completely agree.

New system and coaches for some guys.
* The new guys have started adjusting
Staal and reider

Old crew :
1 5 x5 goal for eichel
1 goal in the 1st game for hall (previously played for Ralph)
Dahlin 1 goal
Skimmer 1 stupid assist
Sam 2 good games

HUTTON- SERIOUSLY

Terrible output from our top paid players.

Not sure if Ralph is to blame as much as the players?

- Boss34

Funny though on Hutton...the guy has a very weird goal scored against him (or 2) every game it seems.
Yesterday, even NJD players didn't know who scored it or how. You can count one for sure each game.

Natural Stat Trick had the High Danger Chances as 22 NJD and 11 Sabres...with 3.64 xGF for NJD. Hutton's 4 against wast too far off the mark.

My point isn't to stick up for Hutton, but to show how bad the Sabres played in allowing 22 HDC's

"On April 20, 2017, Bylsma was fired by the Sabres after two seasons. The transaction came after rumors leaked that Bylsma was at odds with many of the Sabres players, including star Jack Eichel, who allegedly stated he would not sign a contract extension with the team had Bylsma remained head coach"

Bad thing is up until the last 7 periods of hockey they have been very good at suppressing those shots. They are regressing again and we have seen this 2yrs in a row.

I wasnt implying you liked Hutton, sorry if it was worded that way.

Really 3 things to blame

Hutton and the idea that he would help is win this season

Goal scorers are really snake bitten

Ralph playing veteran advantage games.

Okposo- treating him like a human
Skinner - I actually like he creating play himself, but maybe get him going , by boosting confidence with eichel
Holding dahlin back.
1. Keeps him from producing
2. Puts him in a bad defensive position- playing defense ๐Ÿ™‚

Clearly eichel has some personality flaws

At what point is it not everyone else's fault?

The franchise could overlook difficult personalities, if they were winning.

Bruce was a prime example
Jimbo too

Maybe if the guy would stop holding there hand and giving out sugar cookies in the locker room and bust some chops, maybe we would see something different.
