So you listed stats. Great. Did you watch the game? Now I'm actually asking if you watched it seriously. Kotkaniemi drew two penalties, played physical and dominated on the boards, carried his line and set up Toffoli for high danger scoring chances on numerous occasions. Your observations on Suzuki, Anderson and Romanov sound like somebody who read a recap and looked at the box score. If you watched the game you'd know the impact Kotkaniemi had

I watched the game very closely, and didn't think KK was very noticeable. I only looked at stats in case my eye test missed something.
If you are OK with what he did, that's fine. Maybe I'm a bit more objective.

Harris and Struble both with 10 pts in 11 games in the NCAA. Pretty good.

That's a good point. Also last night is a first game of the season, after a long lay off, with no preseason. Midway through the 3rd both teams looked exhausted. On the game winning goal Byron was like "I know I should backcheck here but I'm tired, what's the worst that could happen?"
- Takemedrunkimhome

Both teams looked like that midway through the 3rd. Except Joe, looked like that half way through the 1st.
Byron should bench himself the next time montreal goes to OT

I'd argue they're a mediocre team with some elite players. They're like Edmonton but with more elite players. I don't see anybody calling Edmonton a good team

You wanna talk about mediocre, how about the C depth in Minnesota

Bjugstad and Bonino are #1 and #2

Especially for a guy on the 4th line trying to take a spot in the top 9...very lazy move by Byron.

Always loved Jumbo Joe but this is just sad to watch. Can't see finishing this season.

At least they drafted Marco Rossi, should be a good player.

I was hoping he could show something at the beginning. Unfortunately, he won't even skate for a puck 2 feet away. Just pokes around like a blind person looking for the curb

Especially with the trades they made during the last year...looks like they're in full tank mode.

He was still dangerous on a couple occasions although some of that may be the elite linemates

The game is way too quick for him and it will just get worse when everybody gets their groove.

fine in his own zone, but he can't slow things down when the other 2 have the puck

Even in his prime, Joe's game was always about slowing down the play and making a perfect pass.

I'm not convinced it's a natural fit with Matthews/Marner.

If anything, it might fit more with Tavares... but even then he might just be too slow at this point.

You may be right, I have only played for 40 years, peaking as a grinder at the University level and only have my level 2 hockey Canada coaching certificate so it's unlikely I know anything

Didn't looked at the numbers, but It really felt like they were playing Matthews' line every 2 shifts...maybe it was that

Basch is right, he probably shouldn't be playing that high. Also if the Habs had players the caliber of Matthews I'd hope they play them every two shifts
