Some additional info on Seabrook:

“[We] hope to have him on the ice in the near future,” Bowman said. “But I don’t know when exactly that’s going to be. He’s still not to the point yet where he can skate. Once he does get back on the ice, we’ll see how that feels. And then obviously he’s a couple of weeks behind in terms of game shape and conditioning, so it’ll take some time for him to ramp it up.”

The article (SunTimes) stated that Seabrook has a "new" injury not related to his surgeries. So apparently not COVID either.

If anyone has any interest, Jeremy Laura (Detroit blogger) has a bit of a breakdown of the league financials (as well as a note on Evgeni Svechnikov). It's a pretty good read if you are interested in that kind of thing.

Jeebus Dallas!

NHL announces that 27 players — 17 of which are on the Dallas Stars — tested positive for COVID during training camps.

That's out of about 1,200 players, so a 2.25% positivity rate.

I would assume none were on the Hawks considering practice went uninterrupted throughout.

I know it's no fun, but I'd recommend everyone cool their jets until the final roster is announced. There likely are some cap gymnastics that need to be done.

/the make-up of this roster is the least of my concerns. I am more concerned with decisions being made for development. Full tank ahead.

As long as they aren't putting prospects out there simply because they are prospects then I'm fine. Otherwise, you lose the entire room. Vets lose interest because there is basically minimal chance to be successful and the kids get thrown into the fire before being ready.

For me, it comes down to this. Does Pirri having a spot on a terrible team allow Kurashev another season to further his development? If so, I can suffer through one season of Pirri.

If Pirri puts up any kind of points, he also can be flipped at the deadline.

It looks like Turcotte is expected to make the Kings this year, but is currently injured (lower body). I was interested in him during his draft year, so it'll be fun to watch him start his career.

True, but the argument goes the other way as well. You don't know how good some of these guys are until they go up against NHL competition in a game. The scrimmage was what it was - a scrimmage against your teammates. We have seen a year of what Kubalik can do. Kane is Kane. I don't even like him, but Strome has produced in this league. Despite your dislike, you cannot deny that ADB is a big point producer in the league. They still have Keith, and Murphy. For a time last year when Keith was out, de Haan was our best D-man. Zadorov is a monster. Janmark and Walmark are responsible players with years in the league, etc...

No one (myself included) is expecting this team to be all that competitive, and in all likelihood they won't be. That said, I wouldn't put it past them to surprise and be quite competitive.

Definitely a glass half full viewpoint. You saw how they played against "men" (Vegas) and how others were doing in Rockford. That leaves Suter who I've not heard compared to Gretzky during camp. Yes, Dinky gets points. He doesn't get the puck out of his own end or keep in the opponents end. He will ride the side boards and wear out hip pads.

You are right, I definitely have some rosy glasses on. They did have some issues with Vegas, but they've also changed over a lot of that roster. The Marks (and ultimately Soderberg) are all new and should help provide a lot better D, not to mention some toughness. Shaw is back (for now). I would argue that our D-men are much more stout than last year.

I share everyone's concern for scoring. We will see how our "1st" line handles things, and hopefully Suter and Kubalik can generate some points as well.

Heck, if the scrimmage was any indication, our 4th line will be lighting people up this year.

The taxi should not have any prospects. They should have vets. Preferably a couple physical ones because were gonna suck and have to much softness even in todays league. Better to not have or rookies taken advantage of. Feel bad for kane most of all. Bad time to trade with all the uncertainty but were wasting what are still his prime years. Duncan keith is having a retirement call. He can stay to mentor the youth. Coliton shouldn't be the coach and bowman shouldn't be in charge in less past decisions came from McDonough and he was overruled.

Apparently, the NHL has recorded 27 cases of COVID positives on 9 different teams - 17 on the Dallas Stars - during the training camps. From the NHL statement.

I'm sure that will be well received by all. I don't even watch football anymore and I know that's a bad idea.

What was it that made him stand out to you?
- King Agler

Wasn’t the goals. He was in the proper position in all zones, protected the puck, made plays. I thought he played with a maturity of a 2 year vet.

Hey LA Hawk,

How much time do you think dman prospects receive (excluding Mitchell)?

Whom would sit. Rationale being what?

Eventually Seabrook gets a few reps

If you want kids to get some games, then you play veterans as this puts them on display so that a trade may go down

Kids cannot sit for long; this ruins development this season. So it is telltale where kids are stationed once the AHL season starts.

One consideration also is that Carlsson is Expansion Draft eligible but Beaudin is not.

Obviously trading a top dman like Murphy is a gamble. Obviously market value is low for most players fo several reasons. Obviously it makes more sense to trade deHahn since his career is nearly over and he does not represent long term interest to retain anyway. However if you want to give a kid a serious look, whom would you sit out? Not Murphy. No injuries? Then deHahn sits? If Boqvist has a rough patch, but he represents a talent you really want to see in the lineup and just hope he overcomes the hurdles he faces.

You could say, Carlsson has not proven anything yet. So if he was chosen in The Expansion Draft, only loose him among dmen prospects. I view Carlsson as a very good complement to high end skill prospects. Carlsson is good all around; he can play both sides and will see hits next to his name in game stat's. I would hate to loose him. Furthermore, he could be a nice price piece in the salary cap.
