Are you a fan of Laphroig? It is my favorite peaty scotch. Cheers!

Sort of. I will never turn it down, but I prefer Lagavulin. I was lucky enough to be gifted a bottle of their Distiller's Edition and it is wonderful.

To even everything out, I have a bottle of Oban, and Bunnahabhain Toiteach.

The one shining light of COVID is not spending money on much else, so I just improved my liquor options.

Marcus Foligno 3 years $9.3M ($3.1M per year). Seems about right considering his overall game. All his fancy stats are way above water. He had only 45% of his starts in the Off zone, and kicks in about 25 pts per year.

Seems like a guy you really want for the playoffs.

In the scrimmage, IMO Kurashev was the best forward on the ice.

What was it that made him stand out to you?

Quenneville, Lindholm, Seeler, and Tomkins cleared waivers and all 4 are assigned to Rockford which shakes up who will be on the taxi squad.

Nylander on LTIR.

Smith on IR which is odd after being declared healthy to start camp.

Why are they not on the same page?. What makes them any different than what the Kings are going through? Kopitar and Doughty actually have had more of a dry spell than the Hawks, and they are on board with the rebuild. They have tried to get rid of Brown and Carter, and those contracts are basically untradeable. Quick can be had for cheap. Who knows how long the rebuild will take.? Everyone thought the Rangers rebuild would take years, 2 high draft choices, one big free agent, some players maturing (Zebenijed), and now you have a playoff/contending team.

I am aware that this is a larger discussion. And Chicago is basically at the same spot as LA. But LA has better/bigger prospect pool, in particular at offense. They should become competitive sooner than the Hawks.

However, what I meant, would you want to spend the last years of your career on Colliton-coached team? If they become competitive (or at least give the impression of being so) sooner than when the big contracts run out by 2023, will be Colliton able to take advantage?

Doughty is signed by 2027 and years younger than Keith, Kopitar is signed by 2024. Coach is McLellan now. Pipeline looks great, albeit green. There is light at the end of the tunnel and if they catch lightning in a bottle, McLellan is just fine to be the one at helm, no? Colliton, I am not so sure about that.

We have what we have, I suppose.

EDIT: Looking at the LA lineup right now, I think it looks quite a bit worse than what the Hawks have at the moment. Ugh.

I get what you are saying and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that one or more of the four guys ultimately ask to be moved. The problem for them is the contracts that they still have. Not to mention, Stan is under no obligation to move them just because they want it. If he doesn't get the deal he wants he can tell them to pound sand and they don't really have any recourse.

My apologies for the glaring omission in the blog but Hagel is still in the mix for a roster spot as he wasn't assigned to Rockford yesterday or today.

Rockford doesn’t play for about a month, I think - perhaps prospects in the cab until then, then switching with those four when they can play.

Or did Smith say that he would not report to Rockford?

You do a fine job Theo, but saying Pirri has playmaking ability is a bit far-fetched. This is a guy who once scored 22 goals and had a whopping 2 assists. I am no expert, FU Mo, but that stat line doesn't scream playmaking to me.

Can we not debate where Zach (frank)ing Smith is or isn't? I rather discuss COVID.

Hawks could terminate his contract if that is the case.

I would much rather see Kurashev playing with Kubalik and Suter than Pirri. Pirri is not a NHL player, and our roster is sad if he is in the Top 9. Also, Kubalik needs to be ripping one timers on the first power play unit!! Like the “D” pairings a lot. Goaltending, OUCH!!

For me, it comes down to this. Does Pirri having a spot on a terrible team allow Kurashev another season to further his development? If so, I can suffer through one season of Pirri.

If that bastard is on the Taxi Squad and a kid like Hagel has to go to Rockford, then what is the point of the youth movement!! My same feeling on Pirri being on the roster as well.

I get your point, but damn Pirri does nothing for me. Kurashev to me at least gives me some hope for the future.

I don't like it either but I think Kurashev has a future in the NHL. I am just thinking of the best way for Kurashev to attain it.

First, don’t worry about the taxi squad until Rockford begins play - then we’ll see who they want where.

Second, if Hagel isn’t on the main roster, he’s better off playing in the “A” than riding in the back of a hack in Chicago.

The Taxi Squad if perfect for Pirri.

It's better for a kid like Hagel to get regular PT as opposed to sitting out most games. Tho, at this point, its kinda moot as Smith was put on IR earlier.

I know it's no fun, but I'd recommend everyone cool their jets until the final roster is announced. There likely are some cap gymnastics that need to be done.
