NHL.com has Dallas's games postponed, that's why I swapped out Heddy, Heiskanen, and Huberdeau |

I can only surmise that Pettersson being dropped to the third pair means he is on the trading block.
Tanev with McCann is a good thing, they have chemistry. Blueger has been neutered. - Thunderbolt
See, I don't think Pettersson on the third is a bad thing. I think it would be more like 2-B rather than a 3rd pair.
Matheson/Marino
Pettersson/Ceci
This is more balance. These pairs are more complimentary. These pairs give you the ability to spread out minutes more evenly. |

Okay. I don't necessarily agree but I can get on board. A lot is going to depend on who gets saddled with the bottom forwards. - Thunderbolt
I gotcha, and I definitely see where you are coming from as well with stacking our top 4. We'll just have to see what works I guess. A ton of questions heading into this season. |

Yea, like I was saying earlier that I believe Dumo/Marino/Pettersson to be our smartest dmen and that is spread through all 3 pairs. |

A) They didn't need Ceci. Ruhwedel plays a more sound game.
B) Jankowski is a bum. JR rushed and passed a chance at other better bargains than him. Jankowski probably wouldn't be been signed until right before these camps started.
C) Yes, Hornqvist's cap hit was higher and while I felt the Pens needed to move on from him, the current options are far worse making the potential third line a complete and total joke.
Matheson was NOT A NEED. The Pens had and have a surplus of LDs. It was an unnecessary trade. What do we need now? Better 3rd line players. Good job. - Rinosaur
I mostly agree with most of your assessments about the off season and going forward....but....I'm not ready to call Jankowski a bum yet. He had 17 and 14 goal in consecutive seasons in recent history. If he can pot 15 this year on the 3rd line and be as good on PK as expected Im down with it and certainly not calling him a bum.
If. |

I'd rather shelter the 3rd pair and give them limited minutes and give Petterson/Marino 20+ minutes than evenly spread out minutes among guys who aren't that good.

Yea I definitely see that side of it. But why not give this a try at the start of the season. If it's crap then we know it and it's over with. However if this was us going into the playoffs tmrrw then I would just shelter the third pair and go at it with our best top 4. |

Marino isn't an aggressive offensive defenseman. You neuter his ability to pinch with Matheson and turn him into Dumoulin always having to stay back, but he can play that game even though I'd prefer he didn't.
And Pettersson has meshed well with guys like JJ and Gudbranson in the past.
It's not my preference, but I do see why it could work. - Tojo.
This and the IQ/ability to cover mistake-prone partner as mentioned, but I was thinking more along the lines of adding more offense from the back end. I think this is a major Pens weakness and I wouldn't be surprised if it was a big factor in JR acquiring Matheson. Not that he's a huge point producer, but he does score goals at a decent rate for a defenseman. |

I think a lot of us would rather that but unfortunately its just not Sullivan's style. He likes to spread the ES minutes out amongst the D...even when one pair is an absolute dumpster fire.

I'd rather a lot of things, but Sully has shown unwilling to do that having one of the worst defenseman of recent times, so I don't believe he'd start now.

Shirt season and smaller margin for errors so I’d prefer to ice the best possible roster at all times, personally. |

Am I mistaken or did they start Smith over Koskinen?
I think Sheshterkin is the steal of the goalie pool this year. Not to mention they're facing an Islanders team that doesn't put up a lot goals. |

They do that with a lot of players and it's annoying. I think they should change to have three players from each forward position and then three wild card players. |
