This is all superficial bullpoop. I think Tanner Glass should do commentary and Craig Adams play by play. I can’t ever figure out why any real hockey fan would get bent out of shape about announcers. Do any of you actually sit there and watch commentary between periods? Besides the biggest thing that ever grew hockey in the states was fighting and they are trying to wipe that out of the game.

After watching WJC, I'd rather listen to Stephen Nelson call a game than any of the guys NBC is putting out there. And who the hell thought Mike Babcock would be an improvement over Milbury?

I wonder what CGY would want to retain 50% on Derek Ryan.
- Rinosaur

I would think a 3rd to eat half for the last year here for Ryan would tweak Trelivings interest. Ryan's analytics & numbers are actually pretty good but we have no room at centre with Bennett & Lindholm being moved to centre.

I think Ryan would be a good fit here. Let's make this work. We don't have a third. Will you take a mid-range prospect? lol

You do realize Hornqvist has a bigger cap hit than Matheson? Plus it wasn't just about the cap hit but real money. Matheson is owed $3 million this season and Hornqvist $5.3 million. Rutherford was told to cut real money payroll to under $75 million. Getting rid of Hornqvist who is in his mid 30's with that $5.3 million cap hit and real money who was playing on the bottom 6 was a good move. Matheson has the speed, skill, and youth to actually be worth his cap hit. Matheson is starting the year on the 2nd pairing and if he does well with Marino that will be a steal of a trade for the Pens. Obviously you are taking a risk but you don't get a defenseman in his prime with Matheson's tools for a mid 30's winger who is playing in your bottom 6.

Jankowski also was a very nice signing and can be a big bargain signing for the Pens at $700,000. Jankowski looked really good with Tanev and McCann last night and of he can be our answer at 3C for $700,000 that would be one of the best signings of the year for the league. Jankowski is coming off a terrible season but he was played in a bad situation with wingers such as Lucic and others who should not be in the NHL. Jankowski had two really good season's before that situation last year with 17 and 14 goals. Definitely worth a shot at the minimum. I consider that a no risk high reward signing at that price.

Ceci at $1.25 million is a nice cheap deal for your number 6. I have no problem with that deal and think a Pettersson-Ceci pairing will be a huge upgrade over JJ-Schultz.

I also laugh that you automatically assume we would of been able to sign Hoffman over the Blues. This isn't a video game and it is a very good chance Hoffman would of signed with them anyways. Plus your line doesn't get us under the $75 million real money cap ownership ordered Rutherford to get under. In fact your 3rd line probably doesn't even get us under the real cap.

- MalkinCrosby

A) They didn't need Ceci. Ruhwedel plays a more sound game.

B) Jankowski is a bum. JR rushed and passed a chance at other better bargains than him. Jankowski probably wouldn't be been signed until right before these camps started.

C) Yes, Hornqvist's cap hit was higher and while I felt the Pens needed to move on from him, the current options are far worse making the potential third line a complete and total joke.

Matheson was NOT A NEED. The Pens had and have a surplus of LDs. It was an unnecessary trade. What do we need now? Better 3rd line players. Good job.

Who called O'Connor making the taxi squad? This guy.
- Rinosaur

POJ and O'Connor. Color me surprised. I'm guessing the AHL isn't a thing right now? Also don't think I saw Trotman and that's surprising.

That line-up in practice basically had everything you wanted. Tanev on the 3rd line. Matheson-Marino. Pettersson-Ceci.

I'm definitely surprised about POJ.

Yes it did, but that was camp, so we'll see how that looks come game day. That would be a wise move if they keep Tanev there. Sadly I won't be able to watch the game on Wednesday.

I would even change the third line completely and put Tanev back to his natural side.

Tanev-McCann-Lafferty

Give this a chance for a game.

Yea they could do that. But the best they COULD do is McCann-Blue-Tanev... however Sully won't. I'm actually surprised Tanev was with Canner and Jank

Yeah, but these are camp lines, so I don't necessarily expect them to start the season with them.

Yea that's true. We may actually see those lines in game one with Kap out. Once he's back it's off the table for a bit.

It was when lots of people wanted to sign or trade for him and I said you don’t want him for a 7th round pick let alone a high asking price and he doesn’t give a poop about hockey he just plays for the money to party and gamble. Not joking he was gambling in the same group as me and some mutual friends and he was gambling and drinking till 5am... he played in the playoffs against the knights that same night.... this same poop has been going on since his junior hockey days in Vancouver. He’s made about 53 million in his career and he’s 27 million in debt now

I can only surmise that Pettersson being dropped to the third pair means he is on the trading block.

Tanev with McCann is a good thing, they have chemistry. Blueger has been neutered.

How does it make tactical sense. You have two offensive, aggressive defensemen paired together then you have two defensive, passive d-men paired together. I don't understand the reasoning.

The reason is that Ceci can't cover for Matheson, but Marino can because he plays a smart game. Now our three highest hockey IQ guys on defense are spread out across three pairs.

Marino isn't an aggressive offensive defenseman. You neuter his ability to pinch with Matheson and turn him into Dumoulin always having to stay back, but he can play that game even though I'd prefer he didn't.

And Pettersson has meshed well with guys like JJ and Gudbranson in the past.

It's not my preference, but I do see why it could work.

Okay. I don't necessarily agree but I can get on board. A lot is going to depend on who gets saddled with the bottom forwards.
