I guess there might be some interest in Oliver Kylington as I have read several blogs that thought he would be a good pick-up. Detroit has a full roster, but I guess Stevie could waive a forward.......I don't see him waiving Merril

Witkowski could do that, at a much better cost.

- HenryHockey

Witkowski doesn't win fights. He doesn't scare anyone either. Reaves does. It doesn't matter anyway. Vegas won't trade him.

Pick-up Corey Perry and waive Erne?????
Poor Erne

- HenryHockey

Erne is Stevie's boy. He'll likely give him an 8 year contract extension.

A bit of a frustrating watch, simply because the answers about Svech were over complicated. Coach Blashill emphasized “waivers don’t mean anything, it’s about flexibility”. St. James added, “but you could lose the player”, and the coach acknowledged that.

I am, less and less, concerned about the “first round” status as I am the players. I.E. - if Soderblom can continue his WJC play, that player is more valuable to me than some of our higher picks. First round players don’t always translate. With limited slots you make decisions and live with them. I will agree that someone else could have been waived without concern of losing them, but at the end of the day Svechnikov just hasn’t been able to make an impact for the past few seasons. Injuries that pile up like that don’t go away for whatever reason.

Observation: Brendan Perlini is only six months older than Svechnikov, was drafted just one year earlier, and went seven spots higher. He's already played 200+ NHL games and been through the entire bust - reclamation project cycle twice. Svech is still looking for his first real shot, period.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly thrilled by Svechnikov being on waivers since I think he deserves a chance, and the Wings aren't exactly bursting with talent. But I also think the ship has sailed on him ever becoming anything more than a lunchpail third liner. He's almost 25.

I hope he gets a chance somewhere this season, ideally with Detroit (or Carolina) but really anywhere. He seems like a good dude. Always enjoyed watching him in GR.

So basically I'm agreeing with you.

Rudolfs Balcers might be someone for Stevie to look at. Over a pt per game last year in the AHL and a +14

Then he would have to waive his boy Erne

Holland loved Howard. Stevie loves Erne. I guess all GM's have their favourites. It's like Stevie doesn't want to admit his mistake of drafting Erne 33rd overall. Without Yzerman, I don't believe Erne is playing in the NHL. He's useless.

I mean wouldn't you rather see Rasmussen or Givani Smith in the lineup? I would.

I tend to side with you. When he grabbed his wrist in that scrimmage, you knew it was another semi serious injury. Svech is a fantastic human being. Humble, gracious, hard working. He just cannot get or stay healthy. I want the very best for him, but if he gets picked up and gets that chance elsewhere, it’s ok. Rasmussen had a good camp. Looks strong. Brome had a good camp. If you keep holding a spot for someone and they can’t play, it’s brutal for everyone.

He needs a shot elsewhere, honestly. Good guys that take roster spots & don't play cost younger guys a chance to develop/contribute/win.... Waiver wire update: Blashil given his outright release 😬😬

On another note; Bettman: "...we're talking losses with a "B" not an "M"..." Scary times....

Go back to some of the financial blogs I did. Player salaries were taking up between 2.5 and 3 billion of HRR. Even with escrow and deferment, over 2.5 billion in salaries will go out. The debt is already between 1.5 and 2 billion with no revenues still. Each player payout racks up more. Without fans we could be looking at 4 to 5 billion in shortfall. The best case scenario for this season is around a break even leaving 2 billion still out there.

Speaking of debt, Evander Kane claiming almost 27 million in debt for bankruptcy filing. The take home on his 49 million dollar contract wouldn’t cover that. Good grief

This guy has always been an emotional train wreck. If only he could keep his head into hockey, he is very good at that!
