Wouldn't it have made more sense to waive Byron? Very little chance any team picks up that contract...

Yeah that's what I think too but I guess CJ wants him in the line-up so he stays on roster.

Draft is tonight at 19:00 guys

Training camp happens, good chance Habs see more in Byron for this season than they do in Perry. There certainly are ways they could have kept him without a struggle so him being waived should tell us how Habs brass feel about Byron and Lehks vs Perry
- Takemedrunkimhome

double sided blade, Byron probably more useful in the course of a regular season right now, but in the playoff I would have rather have Perry on that 4th line !

Sure.... but my point is the likelihood that a team claims Byron at that cost and term over claiming Perry at league minimum for 1 shortened season... waiving Byron instead of Perry betters the odds of keeping both, I believe

That's possible, although moot if the Habs don't win enough in the regular season to make the playoffs

Fully agree, which might be the Habs brass' way of saying they saw enough. If they wanted to keep him the cap math wasn't that hard

And that shouldn't depend on Byron or Perry

And Poehling is still on the roster? He didn't need to clear waivers... why not send him down and not risk losing Perry?

I know is price tag is a little high but when healthy, he is worth the money. Bottom 6 forwards that can score 20 goals are quite rare, almost inexistant. Never understood nor will the hate for this guy. He is like the best swiss knife you can have and he can chip in...

One way or another I'm sure somebody will ask. After watching them continue to beat the dead horse that is Danault's contract situation, I'm confident somebody will eventually ask

Sucks indeed and now we wait to see if Perry gets nabbed too...not worried about Frolik, but would like to keep Perry
- Karine Hains

Yeah I would like to see Perry fill in Lehkonen spot here and there. (Lehkonen inability to score is cringing at times)

Cap math wasn't hard if they wanted to keep him. Clearly they made a choice, the reason we wait to be told
