When i click on your team to check your roster I see Bergeron, Kadri and 3rd C spot says empty.

But you have 5 guys on your bench.

so, would the quickest way to set things up be to use the "start active players" option, and then look at every day during the week and see if there are any players on the bench that are playing that you would want to switch around?

I think so, I was in one of those a long time ago and you had guys who would try to optimize their pool with the number of games played but that's intense. I'll just switch if one gets injured or if one of the guys on my bench is on fire

At the beginning of every week I click on the start active players and select for the entire week. Then I'll go through on a day-to-day basis and see if I want to swap any players. Especially key for goaltenders if you have more than two, if you have one that is playing back-to-back games and a goalie on the bench that has a game, you'll want to double check and see who is actually playing.

But you shouldn't have anyone on your bench who is playing that night anyway?

well if you have a ton of centers for example it's possible they might all be playing on the same night, so then you can switch them around as you wish

but, isn't that the point? activating guys that aren't playing while having guys that are playing on the bench doesn't really make sense
