He should get a very good +/- watching Matthews/Marner score while he's still in the neutral zone trying to catch up. I'll give you that.

I think Jumbo will be an unmitigated disaster..

just my opinion.. He's way too slow to be effective.

In Nova Scotia 65 in total, since it began.

Even less per capita than Norway. Well done!

But in that same period of time, the number of people dying from giant squid attacks is waaaaaaaaay higher in Nova Scotia than Ontario.

You frankers should have been on squid lockdown months ago.

I think you're just like any typical idiot Leafs fan, in that you are vastly over-estimating what Robertson can do this year.

So I guess I'm saying you aren't a Leafs hater?

Let's go easy, fellas. Robertson took four sips of NHL coffee last year.

- Atomic Wedgie

I think the kid can do well in the Leafs top 6.

Now how well... that remains to be seen.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I believe in him more than than I believe in Joe or Vesey.

So feel free to laugh at me and tell me I've drunk too much blue Kool-aid, but here goes:

I'm really interested to see how the two styles mesh: you'll have Matthews and Marner going at 200 km/h, and Thornton slowing things down.

I can't help but think that the contrast will screw up some defenses - especially if they are playing zone. You are standing next to Joe, and all of a sudden Marner skates by and you need to stick with him.

I think joe will provide much octopus skills in the corners for down-low puck battles and that's where he'll shine.

Its kinda redundant to remove Hyman from his 1st line duties so Joe can try to keep up.

Interesting.

I fully expect both of them to fail. I think Hyman and Robertson will replace them in the top 6 at some point.

- Scabeh

On paper Hyman doesn't belong in the top-6. But no one grinds on the boards and creates that havoc that creates space, opportunity, and puck retrieval. I don't see Joe doing it any better than when they loaded up the top line in the past. You need someone to put in the work in the hard areas.

Vesey may be more effective on the second line, because he's a fairly big kid who can win board battles. If you look at the role similarly to Hyman, you'd have Engvall (who isn't 2nd line material, or . . . you know, even on the roster) or Mikheyev (who didn't line-up with Tavares and Nylander at all, but doesn't really perform the Hyman board play role that well). I love Robertson's shot, but if you have a line of Robertson-Tavares-Nylander . . . who is getting the puck back when we don't have it?

I have to say - aside from knowing his stats, that he's 6'3, and that Babcock had envisioned him playing alongside Matthews - I don't know anything about Vesey. I know he's scored against us a few times, so he's a jerk.

He was good enough that Buffalo was willing to trade a 4th round pick for him.

OK, now an ad from Smokey the Bear telling me to prevent forest fires.

Why is the US forestry service paying money for ads for this Canuck to see?

Bizarre.

I remember the crazy amount of hype around Vesey.

I think it helped feed my skepticism towards every young guy from college that's supposed to "tear it up" immediately.

The priority for Hyman us to have an effective 3rd line checking group to give Keefe more offensive flexibility on deploying the the first two lines. There’s no way that Hyman is a critical offensive piece. He’s not the only energy guy. If Vesey on the top 6 doesn’t work there are alternatives before you get to Hyman - Robertson or Bear (we have to use Barabanov’s official nickname people) are probably at the top if the list. The only way that Hyman goes back up is if the checking line doesn’t work.

Well, if true, this is a good tidbit of info. It shows that Keefe agreed that more grit and sandpaper was needed.
Glad to see Keefe agreed with a couple of us on here.
