I live in Ottawa. So if the Sens score, I will never hear about it.
- AdamFrench

You could live in the arena and never hear it.

The vaccine only protects you. It does not protect you from spreading it.
- bixll

OK, so then what would be wrong with me and my household getting the vaccine, and only going to one restaurant where everyone has been vaccinated and people are maintaining the same protocols as me (100% only associating with those who have been vaccinated)?

I realize that in real life, this would be impossible to enforce, but at least in theory, would this be a safe way to operate?

- gergeswillems

To be clear, I think she is a good reporter.

The reason I'm posting her tweets is because I follow her.

All reporters in all sports do it, and I'm just tired of it (the worst being the on-field interviews as the football coaches run to the dressing room at half time).

My message to Ms. Shilton and others:

Quit posting what John Tavares says about the upcoming season. Hell, quit even asking the question.

Instead, please let us know what you think about John Tavares and the upcoming season.

Keefe will get him on VS Ottawa for an easier transition.

So somebody explain to me like I'm a dumb Leafs fan:

What happens when I get vaccinated? Does this mean that (at least in theory) I could go about living a normal life again?

Would it be safe to open up a bar/restaurant, and as long as staff and customers were all vaccinated (i.e., not pose a health risk)?

Could anyone vaccinated return to work?

Or am I missing something obvious?

- Atomic Wedgie

Still too early for any of that.
Even if staff are vaccinated, who they come in contact with outside work may not all be.
But, once at least 50 - 60% the population is vaccinated, hopefully things begin to return to normal. The new normal with mask still.

Or I could be wrong

I would say so, although the official word is going to be social distance and wear mask for quite a while still.

The problem is going to be if a new strain emerges that the vaccine does not address.

Freddy doesn't care about having a good year, what player cares about losing millions of dollars over a bad season?

Vaccination doesn't stop you from getting it and carrying it, thus then spreading to others who aren't vaccinated. It only stops you from experiencing symptoms

Until large portions of population are vaccinated it won't matter

- burn

Not entirely accurate. The vaccination (Moderna and Pfizer) have about a 95% Efficacy. This generally means once you have your second dose of the vaccine you have 95% less probability of disease incindence (being infected) There is also a significantly reduced abitly to spread the disease on this basis - exact numbers are not yet known, risk factors will take time to develop. To eliminate Covid, it is estimated that 70 to 80% of the population needs to be immunized. Two of the major unknowns are how long vaccination is effective. 3 years would be the current estimate and how long immunity will last once someone that has been infected will last. Keep in mind that the small pox vaccine was invented in the late 1700's - modelling and technology have come a long way and small pox was virtually eliminated. Do you still have to wear a mask - yes, social distance - yes, chance of you getting infected - about 5% and chances of experiencing much milder effects from infection - 99%.

Summer rolling around and illnesses being harder to transmit will help decide a lot as well

Theoretically you can "catch" it, but the body would destroy it before symptoms happen. There would be a very small window where you might be able to spread it

I am inclined to believe them when they say that they just want him to get acclimated to the NHL game and the smaller rink. He has the skills to be successful. In the Blue & White game he was noticeable - maybe not for defense, but for his skating, and handling the puck. That would already make him better than Marincin who has never been good at any of those things. Marincin is good at holding a long stick. It's a skill that's particularly useful in the porn industry, but doesn't necessarily equate to different D work in the NHL.

Yeah it seems to me that the people who theorized that the summer heat/UV whatever would decrease the transmission were probably right.
