Can the 27th pick be considered a "top" or "cant miss" prospect. Personally I think when viewed historically he is right in line with average development for a player taken in that general area.
- MBFlyerfan

I feel like he is considered a very promising prospect. Maybe that’s so, idk, i just feel like it’s taken a bit long haha.

Hayes also didn't play the full 82-games, he was deployed much more defensively than Schenn, and you have to also take into account that he scored a lot of pts in the PO's, too.

If either of Frost or Farabee hit their potential, it would have been worth the trade. If both hit their potential, than we're looking at a lesser version of Recchi for Leclair/Desjardins.

And Patrick... who was the entire reason why Schenn was traded in the first place... if he can get back on track, then there's really no reason left to reminisce about Schenn at all.

- Tomahawk

I disagree Hayes and Schenn are close in terms of comparison or that Hayes is better. Is Hayes a fit here? Yes he is and he should be because we went all in to get him. Is their a high expectation on Schenn’s return? Yup! It’s just been a slot process.

I think he is very promising as well. But in comparing his numbers to the players drafted just before him and after him....he is right where he should be..at least using that metric.

What are Schenns numbers on the PK?

I understand the argument about last year, and maybe it was a missed opportunity but they didn’t have a crystal ball. Probably just didn’t see any harm in giving Frost more time to develop physically. I don’t think that criticism or argument can be applied this season with the current NHL roster depth.

It tough for him sure, but I would like to also point out the same is now true for all the almost-ready Flyers forward prospects.

- NC Flyers Fan

This season is a tough situation for Frost, I don’t argue it but Claude Giroux forced management to make a decision to put him on a deep roster. Can we say Frost is doing the same?

Interesting tidbit from that 2017 draft class. Despite missing an entire season plus, Patrick is still 5th in points and 3rd in games played among that draft class.
- MBFlyerfan

Patrick made the team right away and lost one season. The kid is still on track for greatness.

If Frost had to go through waivers, would he be picked up? If so, how many teams would be interested.

Keep in mind they would have to put him on the NHL roster

- wcorvette

Every one. No doubt.

Thank you! We’ve seen it before and it’s been done before. This is a kid I’ve seen some compare to the next Giroux within the last year when Patrick was the forgotten man.

Why is this funny? You mentioned they were comparable, I really don't know, is Schenn is on the PK, if he is, I don't know how he is performing.

Let’s see after he plays some games for the Phantoms, if he does get sent down. Got to give Frost a chance to see if he can force the conversation.

Morgan Frost was drafted in 2017. He’s not 4 months from age 22. We didn’t have Nolan Patrick and Oskar Lindblom last season. Joel Farabee was able to stay on on the roster and Morgan Frost was not. Frost should be playing to make the NHL, not being proud to make the AHL All-Star team. Your expectations are laughable.
- SuperSchennBros

You really are a narrow minded fool. I don't care how old he is as doesn't matter. He was a first year pro; what part don't you get. So yes making the AHL all star team is good. All about progression. Who said he isn't playing to make the NHL; he did make it as he played games there last season. You are laughable with your assessment.

They did have Oscar last year and he is a wing. Frost was not.

So since going by the age factor Alison and Tanner should be in the NHL right now. As both older than Frost.

I will agree with most of this, it’s certainly taking quite a long time for a “top prospect”, when is it going to happen for this kid. How many years in a row has it been, maybe Frost will make the lineup.
- ClaudeFather

Been 1 year since this is his 2nd year of pro hockey.

I guess that’s true. It’s just he’s been talked about to make the team for a couple of years now and it’s a little disappointing it looks like that’s not the case for the third year in a row.

I like Frost and have hope he will be just fine, he fills a need our group lacks and will lack more when G is gone.

That said, what he seems to be lacking compared to a G is that edge or killer instinct. Yes an observation with no facts. What is true is he excels in drills, that he is very skilled and he will still get better. I think a lot of folks wanted to give up on Laughton and while Frost needs to contribute a lot more than Laughton on the O side, he deserves the patience to get there. Add in Covid and the roster questions and I am not worried even a little bit about Frost at the moment.

I think Philadelphia has over hyped him as a "top prospect" after he tore up juniors. Hes still a very good prospect. Looking at the 15 16 17 and 18 draft classes. Hes about where every other late first rounder was on his years of service. For his own draft class including top picks hes 20th in games played. 2016 which was a much deeper class had most of their class break out last season other than the 7-8 "studs". This is the year he needs to make a case to stick in the pros by year end. And he needs to be an out right member of the team come opening night next year. If not I worry. Until then. Hes on track.

shifting gears

No Chara in Boston, does the rat stay on the edge? Does some team go after him for pay back now that Chara is not there to help? Will Chara kick his ass when the CAPs play Boston?

No I’m not a narrow minded fool. You’re just wrong, which shows in your name calling.

It’s up to Morgan Frost to force management’s decision to put him on the team the same way Claude Giroux did when he was young. Oh, you know, when such names as Danny Briere, Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, Simon Gagne, Scott Hartnell, Mike Knuble, Jorffery Lupul and Scottie Upshall we’re here. Upshall got traded, which opened top nine playing time. Lupul was traded that summer, which moved Giroux further up and JvR was able to make the roster. That’s how this works. You show you belong and management will make the moves.

There was a time when we believed on this board that Giroux was all but making the team right out of camp. Well this didn’t happen. Giroux has a bad camp. I know he had something to do with his teeth or whatever but we had a young rookie one year older by the name of Steve Downie. Love of hate Downie, he took advantage of an opportunity Giroux didn’t.

The point....there is zero reason Morgan Frost can’t prove he’s better than Joel Farabee right now and make Farabee sit taxi. Yes Farabee made the team last season but that’s last year and this is now. There is always space.

Did you see Laughton strip the puck off Friedman and deke Moose? Did you see him beat the same in shoot-out and end up hitting his blade with an open net?

I said IF the 2nd line is not working out. Laughton looks like a dude on the verge of something big after high expectations but slow start.

Reminds me of Brandon Graham in that regard.

- PT21

How many players make up an NHL line. Why are you assuming that if that line struggles that the problem would be Giroux?

Laughton is a solid player but the odds of him suddenly breaking out to be more than he is, is not very likely.

Is that how it works? Appreciate the education. So normal training camp is what 6/7 weeks? Numerous games against other NHL teams. This roster was set from day 1 and there was nothing any player who wasn’t full time last year was going to do to unseat anyone in this format of training camp. Now I am sure you feel differently.

Also didn’t Giroux spend time in the AHL or is that a figment of my imagination?

You probably thought Laughton and NAK were bust. So since they are older when can we expect Allison and Tanner in the lineup?
