Anyone have any insight on the re-signing of John Marino for Pittsburgh?
56 career NHL games and he gets a 6 year extension for 4.4m per...just absolutely CRAZY.
Rutherford could seriously be one of the worst GMs when it comes to re-signing depth players. - Glak18
I poop on most all things JR, but I’m fine with this deal actually |

O’Brien scored in first period, let’s hope it is a sign of good things.
Other note, reading Pens blog on how they will need to add an impact player next year via RA OR UFA is entertaining |

I think it’s one of those where he’s getting way too much the first few years, but eventually will be underpaid. It’ll work out in the long run. |

Can’t blame them. They gotta do something. The cupboard is bare, and their stars are getting older. Still strong AF, but the tread is wearing.
Last draft was fairly strong (or so we think), and I believe their pick went to the Leafs.
We’ve certainly been in that situation years ago. |

Also heard the Avs and BlueJackets may be riddled with COVID, not a good sign.
Someone asked for York comparisons, I kinda think Timonen with more offensive upside. I couldn't get over how un-noticeable he was in the World Juniors and not in a bad way. His game is very efficient, always in the right spot, always with the stick ready and physical when need be.
I think York will be a trade-deadline like acquisition, he'll sign after Michigan's season. Someone had an article on Hockeybuzz about top 6 or so players in the tourney that were NHL ready, and York was one of them. |

There have been quite a few media reports about concerns over the Flyers losing Niskanen and what that means to their ability to play defense. However one thing I have learned over the years is that the goalie, nor the defensemen are solely responsible for team defense. Its the responsibility of the 6 players on the ice at any moment. You look at some of the best defensive teams in the league today, like the Bruins for example, they are great defensively because they have a system of defensive layers that is very difficult to penetrate. Tuukka Rask is a good goalie, but not a great goalie, he benefits from the system. Chara is a good defenseman, and at one time was a great one, but he by himself was not solely responsible for the Bruins success defensively either. Back in the 90s the Devils became a vey successful team because of their system until the league changed the rules to open up more offense. Thus if this Flyers team truly commits to executing layers of defense up and down the ice, they will be fine without Niskanen. The one thing I noticed last year against the Bruins was having Hayes and Couturier enabled the Flyers to shutdown the Bruins top line, I hope the same happens this year.
Now, if they can only fix the PP and score more goals. |

I really liked what I saw from York, especially as the tournament went on, however I think he needs to bulk up a bit more to be an impact D in the NHL. I did notice at times he was light on his skates and the puck, and its only going to get harder in the NHL.

York while drafted small had put on significant size and strength. Hes put on I think its 15 lbs of solid muscle since he was drafted and everyone says he's an absolute workout and health junkie in the grain of provy.
I think the flyers were banking on having niskanen this year with York coming in next year. And by all accounts that seems to still be the plan for York. I dont see him sitting in the AHL. He can work through his gaps in the NHL. He may took a few years for his offense to come but hes going to be a smooth skating solid d man day 1.
Kimmo is a popular comparison. But I think thats an unfair burden to place on the kid. Ill be comfortable with Morgan Rielly. |

That’s funny that Timonen is an unfair burden of a comparison, than you go right into comparing him to one of today’s great offensive defensemen.
I think a young man like Cam York would be much more familiar with Morgan Riley, while Kimmo Timonen was criminally underrated and not as know as he should have been in his time league wide. |

Here's my question though, variation of a same old theme.
We had Kimmo in his prime. He wasn't enough. The only time we sniffed the cup was when he played across from an even more legendary D-man.
Who amongst the young D project to that level? |

I think you and NCFlyers Fan were asking about the televising. I dunno if this answers your question but it seems pretty definite info about how to watch it:

I picked kimmo as well but I look at the comparison to style of play and physical build/ stature. How they play the game. Best case what he ma become. |
