Boomer was saying on his radio show this morning that Martin turned down more money elsewhere because he wanted to stay. Not sure what he has to gain by lying but whatever I don't give a sh!t either way.

"Your wrong. He can be signed today and could have been signed a month ago. It’s totally not helping the Islanders that their 1C and a PPC is not training with the team. Especially this year when training camp is 10 days and it’s a shortened ~50 game season. But if you think this was planned then you keep telling yourself that.

In the mean time here’s an article you should read which might help you understand the cap/ LTIR etc. I chose this one because it easy reading.

https://www.dkpittsburghs...ry-cap-penguins-space-tlh " Nyilses 7 from other page.

I love that you sent this and talked to me like a child and you still don't get how this works.... it's honestly funny to me.

Let me point out what you think makes you correct but actually is why you are wrong in your own article.

"Teams are allowed to exceed the cap in the offseason, but only by 10 percent. They must be cap compliant by the time the season starts."

"It's a common misconception that placing a player on long-term injured reserve makes their contract "come off of the books." That's not true. Rather, the team is given a new salary cap while the player is on long-term injured reserve."

ok... so one other point is you cannot designate anyone to LTIR until the season starts. Now you might need to take a minute here to figure this out....

If you can't use LTIR to be cap compliant, as I said... and you can't designate until day 1 of the season. .... That has absolutely NOTHING to do with the 10% over the cap allowed before the season starts. That is what must really be confusing to you. YOU can't be OVER THE CAP DAY 1 ... you will forfeit games if you are over the cap day 1...

That is where u seem to no longer pay attention... you seem to think that 10% is proof that shows me how wrong I am... it's not and talking to me like a child showing me that point over and over again is a riot.

The Islanders will be at the cap limit on Day 1 or as close to it as possible once the agreed on contract by Greene, Martin, Kuhnackl, and others are filed. .. whatever their number is at that moment is their Cap limit.

Then once the season starts they will immediately put Boychuk on LTIR. you get his $ to spend at that point and anyone else they put on LTIR.. NOT BEFORE..

The only other way to get cap compliant is to start waiving players to save $1 mill a player.. so if you are $6 mill over the cap.. start waiving 6 guys b/c u can ONLY save $1 mill per waive.

enjoy your day

FYI: The Islanders can have up to 89.6 Million in Cap hit right now. 3.9 under the cap currently plus the 10%. That's 100% fact not fiction.

Neither do I but like I said I have a hard time believing it with the NHL and it’s salary cap along with a lack of revenue making that tough to believe. Maybe a basement team with a ton of space filling it on a one year deal to hit the floor? That’s the only thing I can think of but I have a hard time believing it would be four years at the numbers we gave him.

Sure its a little to long.....but it won't matter much.....By Year 4 the Buried amount in the Minors will move up a little...maybe to 1.2m...so he can be buried at a cap it 300K or maybe they have a prearranged LTIR situation.....Not all players fit the 4th line role well....this guy does.....he is a good soldier and relishes the role....
Walhstrom,Bellows,or Dal Colle would not be better 4th liners than MM.

And for those that say long term contracts for 4th liners and 3rd pairing defensemen are bad.....
although its different as the guys were young-The Pelech and Mayfield Contracts were panned at the time.....now look.

First bold;
Famous last words and I’ve heard that before many times on this thread. In four years there will most likely be a more lucrative contract we’ll need to bury. I don’t even think that’s debatable. I can’t believe this is even a discussion on this thread when if we didn’t have Boychuck “retire” we would’ve had to jettison more useful, good players like Toews to sign barzal.

Second bold;
I don’t know how else to put this besides this is a really bad analogy. Admittedly, I never thought Pelech would amount to anything along with everyone else on here because he was that bad. With that he was still a young player with potential upside. Mayfield I always liked and he fit the same category as pelech. Martin is an oft injured, former bruiser, declining, 31 year old player. Signing him to the money and term we did is nuts. I don’t see how this is even a debate?

With that I’m done discussing this

in 6 days right after Boychuk is allowed to be put on LTIR, if they immediately sign Barzal will you say I was right?

Nope you're wrong. They could have signed him and this is not some planned thing between the Islanders and Barzal's camp. It makes no sense at all.
If He is signed on the 1st day of the season then it's purely coincidental. They want him signed and in camp with his teammates.
I'm done with this convo because you don't know your ass from your elbow when it comes to the cap and it compliance ramifications.

This is good news. Time for some of these young players to break through.

Shame Barzal isn't in camp so JGP could play with the young guys and new wingers to gain some chemistry together instead of him playing on the 1C post to fill in for Barzal.

Good news on Sorokin!

I agree. Hope we get to see JGP with Bellows and Wahlstrom. Could be a very interesting line.

Sorokin sounds like Shesty. I was amazed at how fast he was and same with puck handling.

AJ Greer to the crease and lifts one over Varlamov for White. Austin Czarnik has also scored for White against Varly. Sorokin still has not allowed a goal.
From gross

Only preseason scrimmages but he hasn't allowed a goal yet

Well Mayfield said he's amazingly fast post to post and handles the puck well so its a seemless transition. I know a lot will say our gaa the last two years was already good but I'm hoping this guy doesn't let the leakers in that should be saved. To.me he's the guy that makes the amazing as well as routine saves game in and out and over a season that translates to wins

I hope he’s as solid in the NHL as he was in the KHL.
That’s all we can hope for.

Silly statement
Those contracts, aside from Shattenkirk, that were bought out contributed to many good seasons and a helluva lot of playoff games
Those buyouts were critical in restarting the team. Girardi Lundqvist and Staal were critical components of a lot of winning...yet, and sadly, no cup to show for it.

- Blueshirts16

I'm not talking about those buyouts. And you're already have buyers remorse on Trouba. And you saying you're ecstatic over a contract that is a total of 6 million dollars is stupid.
