He is your franchise player and they have 53 mil in cap room then .

Oh definitely – he's worth it, just saying he's put his foot forward into some high end company.

Good comparable for Petey's contract.

Definitely good news for Canucks . They have 28 mil next year in space and a lot of ELCs . So getting Petey and Hughes in at 14 means they can get on top of things easily . I imagine Demko will be around 3-3.5

I'd prefer Petey on a long term deal sub 10M rather than a 3 year bridge with a QO of 10M.

Still think it will be 16-18 for the 2 of them next year.

I don't. Long term deals are killing teams

I can't see them at 16-18 especially if they're aiming for bridges, which it seems most players and teams are.

Makes sense for the players to do shorter deals as they're able to cash in with an increasing cap, and it makes sense for management/ownership to keep costs down.

I'd say 14/15 for the both of them. Petey at 8 and Hughes at 7.

Short team deals will too. Look at Mathews deal only 5 years and its (frank)ed the leafs, along with the others but he set the baseline.

In 5 years the cap may be 60 mil. I think the NHL are going to face major losses for at least 2 more years.

It (frank)ed the Leafs because they just backed the truck up for him/them. If they got all three of them to more reasonable deals they'd be fine. It's not the length that is screwing up the cap, it's the amount.

I agree, I disagree that long term deals in particular are hurting teams. Look at the pend they paid Sid and Geno top dollar and they've been able to consistantly add players.

Mathews deal is insane to me because the Leafs got the worst of all worlds (high AAV, shorter term and ends in UFA years).

I could go either way with EP40 and Hughes. The bridge is nice because it gives the team three years to take a serious run and add additional talent on similar term and at the end still RFA years.

Long-term also makes sense for EP40 and Hughes because they are complete players and are self-driven. As long as the AAV is reasonable then would not be against it.

Apparently Corey Crawford is set to retire. Weird since he just signed a contract.

Since Mathew Barzal was signed after July 10, 2020, per the MOU, his qualifying offer will be the lesser of:
1) 120% of the AAV
2) 100% of the last year salary

Therefore, rule 1 will apply and the QO will be 120% of his $7M AAV, resulting in a $8.4M QO at expiry of his contract.

The final year is always highest to ensure a large qualifying offer to retain.

If QH or EP want to sign 7 years x 6.3 then I approve. That said AVs are in a bit of a crunch for Cap relief also

I wonder what Arizona thinks about the Clayton Keller long-term deal, at 8 years, 7.15 million?
The kid is scoring at a low end 2nd line, high-end 3rd line centre.

This cherry-picking stuff is easy.

They will sign a 2 or 3 year deal and then at that time you look and see what the cap is league wide. As I said I expect the league is going to lose lots of money over the next 2-3 years.
