Do you think any teams will send/paper down players like Hughes and Elias to save cap space.
It would save 52% of that salary?

- Reubenkincade

Definitely on those off-days. It'll have to take a lot of forethought, on how many players they want on their roster and how many they want on the taxi squad (max 6 I think?), but those small savings of sending those players down on off-days can add up when the TDL approaches.

It'll he harder for the Canadian division come TDL with the quarantine, but can see teams down south doing it more.

Here's my concern. He's a kid who has missed a lot of hockey in a position where confidence and timing are just as important as skill. He isn't getting either sitting in the press box and being a practice target. Combine that with the 3/4 of a year he's missed and it could stunt his development. I'd rather see him build on what he had going before the season ended last year.

Benning is going to need to get another goalie then. Kielly can't be the 3rd string

Highlights so far definitely Hog and juolevi. Both look good and seem ready. Hoglander has clearly exceeded expectations and Juolevi has met expectations which is great. Kid just needs to stay healthy. Don’t really see any huge disappointments. Everyone knew that Loui would suck and Jake would be fat.

Also nice to see Schmidt fitting in well and Lockwood showing he could be an interesting piece in a year or two. Like to see Lind and Locky in the bottom 6 in a few years.

Each team will be different. I just think it's an fun wrinkle that gives GM more options to save money, safeguard players, keep more bubble players around, and massage their rosters and cap.

Interested to see how they all manage it

Agreed. It will be interesting.
Given how many overpriced vets Vancouver has , I’d assume they will have the likes of Beagle, Benn and Baertschi on the taxi squad - players that can slot in for injuries without fear of being picked off waivers.

In saying that, if an American team puts someone compelling on waivers, I wonder if the 14 day quarantine would impact on decisions to sign someone.

Do you remember MD playing San Jose? Do you want that to happen again? Possibly Multiple times.

It has been agreed that the nhl can follow their safety protocols, which is a 7 day quarantine with 4 consecutive negative covid tests.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, which happens a lot.

I dont think Aquilini will shell out for a veteran 3rd string goalie. I could be wrong but I suspect that’s why they haven’t done anything and probably won’t. The conversation has puzzled me. Thankfully it’s pretty rare both guys are out for a significant duration.

Using Elias and Hughes as examples, they would save about 1 million in salary, but, might really piss them off.

Markstrom and his constant groin injury has been the only real issue over the last 5 years.

It's not urgent at the moment. But yeah, I think if the 14 day quarantine isn't lifted in the next month or so they should. Just to have their asses covered. This is just my personal opinion. Some will disagree and they can suck my balls.

Not sure how much money they are willing to bleed, but, getting a veteran 3rd string goalie is going to cost at least a half million more than Kielly or whoever the decide on.
Sure it won't count towards the cap but it is still more money going out.
I think they will stay with what they have and roll the dice that both goalies aren't injured at the same time, if they do get injured.

You're probably right. But it's gonna be a different gamble health wise with 56 games in 115 days. The rest and recovery time isn't going to be there for the only position that plays 60 minutes a night.

I think gone are the days of the Canucks having a 14 million dollar 4th line, now they will have an 18 million dollar taxi-squad...progress.
