I thought the exact same thing. Way to plan guys.

Dudes like Zach Fucale, Justin Pogge, Jack Campbell and Mark Visentin were lights out at the U20's... where are they now?

Goalies are crazy unpredictable.

Why would Seattle do us any favors ? If nak plays well, hagg plays well or laughton is left unprotected i think thats their target over a bad contract.

Goalies dont get huge contracts historically in their first deal. Probably gets around 5.5 per.

If you think you can get dubois for ghost you're out of your mind. Dubois is costing frost and a 1st. Kids a top line center on most teams. At age 23. On a 2 year 5 per contract with one more rfa year.

I still have no doubt in my mind that the 87' Flyers beat Edmonton in the finals with a healthy Poulin and Kerr. Was anyone allowed in the day to touch Gretzky, Coffee or Kurri the way we see Kerr getting manhandled in this video?

They have to grab some cap dollars from someone . Counting on that is a crap shoot though.

Levi was drafted in the 7th round, so good for them if he pans out. Raises his trade value if they don't need him

Bobrovsky will be their guy for a while. Not all goaltenders are thrown in right away. It took Price two seasons to make it to the NHL, and then another 3 to be the starter. I would think that's their plan for Knight as well.

- Streit2ThePoint

Maybe but bob is on the books for another 6 years and let’s say they want to give time to an up and comer, that’s a lot for a backup.

I agree that Seattle may be better off taking a NAK; assuming he continues to show he is a NHL level player. If he does do the Flyers change course and protect him while exposing another?

It doesn't help them taking a bad contract unless the sweetener added is too good to pass up.

How good is Colorado going to be in the near future? They are already a serious cup contender but after watching the WJC, they have some players coming in that I believe will push them to a very elite level. Really impressive drafting by the Aves!

Yes. Thought the same thing. Good prospects on d for sure.

There will be other big contracts out there attached to better players. If we leave jake out there they'd without a doubt take him. But jvr ? Is he that much of a contributor over nak hagg or laugjton ? I'd argue laughtons more impactful. And if nak can pot say 12 to 16 in a regular season his relentless forecheck and physicality may make him more useful than jvr as well. I get the if associated with it. But doesn't make any sense if im Seattle.

How much of a sweetener are we willing to add knowing that 20 teams in the same spot as us? Nak while a nice player is not someone I protect. We have enough incoming to replace him.

Just doesn't make sense for Seattle who is going to have their pick of the litter.

If you want to talk dubois to Columbus could be more interesting. Columbus has cap space.bcpuld you get them to take a contract like jvr if you include frost and a 1st for dubois ? Is that worth it for us ? Where do we see our title window ? Is it now ?

At this juncture you let Raffle walk. He has been a solid NHL player; one who doesn't get the respect he has earned. Though you need to replace him internally with an entry level contract.

If you are the GM what offer do you make to Laughton to keep his service's?

- Striiker

It is tough, first you have expansion, then you have the flat cap. I think in a normal market Laughton (with another good season) could really demand a strong contract. Add in the youth movement in the NHL and I don't think Laughton has as much leverage as one would think. I do think in this environment he would give a little of a hometown discount, plus if the Flyers take even a small step forward he would want to stay to go for the cup. If he matches last season I could see the flyers doing 3-4 years at 2.7-3.2. I don't claim to be a cap guru

Comes down to the sweeteners like you said before, I will say I think there might not be as many this time around. Quite a few teams got burned doing that with Vegas. JVR has zero appeal to me but it all depends on what their roster is looking like and what’s available. Doubt they do us that solid lol.

That is your opinion he is a key player. You say he is not the kind of player who will be difficult to resign. What do you think then it will take to resign him?
- Striiker

I said not difficult to resign. Whatever a fair market deal is for him.

I am not adding much at all for them to take a "bad" contract. Obviously would need to see what the potential cost would be to make a final decision.

NAK isn't someone you protect I agree. Though lets say he puts up 15 goals and 30+ points while giving solid defensive play. It will make them think twice. Would you dangle Jake out there for them to take?

Not to protect NAK. Just was a general thought to not protect Jake to see if Seattle bites.

What would in your opinion be fair market? Surly you have a number you would be comfortable with. He is at 2.3 now. How high do you go? How much term?

Is it fair to say he will want term and money on this deal since this is his prime?

That’s where it gets tricky. How much are you willing to spend on a bottom 6, potentially fourth line player. Love the intangibles and what he brings but it’s a tough scenario.

on Dubois...do you think Flyers consider flipping Ghost for him? Not a big cap difference ~500K more for us.

I know I'm showing my age here, but man, for anyone that didn't get a chance to see a healthy Tim Kerr in person... For a guy with below average skating (even for the day), what an absolute beast in front of the net and on the PP. No idea how a guy ends up being one of the most underrated players of his time with multiple seasons of over 50 goals, but he is somehow overlooked. I know it's the story of our lives, but if it weren't for injuries...

I see Laughton coming in at 3.5aav or thereabouts.

As MJL said, he isnt the kind of player that will command huge dollars in free agency because he doesn't put up huge numbers....and that is what drives salary. He is however, the kind of player that is really important to your roster, the kind where you say he is more important to your team than he may be to someone else's.

This is just my opinion though you need to fill that internally in a perfect world. Need to keep the flow of entry level contracts on your main roster to give you flexibility for more impact type plyers.

The Flyers would do that deal in a heartbeat, Columbus would laugh and block the number as a spam call.
