Fair enough, I was just kidding around.

Good post in regards to acquiring a goalie. Probably would have happened, and it hasn't, so they must be content with our duo.

I'm concerned, this is a big season and we have alot of eggs in a young kinda unproven goaltender's basket.

And an older proven to not be good backup goalie in Hutton. Hopefully hutton can go :

5-4-3 ( T.M. jcrags) 13 points /12 games

Remember it’s only my opinion with some help from my good friend Jason Botterill. Ullmark has all the tools to be a number one and it’s a chance but I think it’s a good move. As for Hutton he’s getting a bad rap. He is a good backup and will be 500 or better. I watched his interview at the end of last year. He said there was a couple of injuries including the eye thing but didn’t want to use them as an excuse. He said he has to be better. To be honest I’d rather have him then a swollen head like Lehner throwing everyone but himself under the bus.

Ray Ferraro on the TSN broadcast “The buffalo sabres must be very happy watching this game with Cozens and Perteka” end quote.

Quinn had a great play to get an assist on his first shift. I have also forgotten he was playing in this game though.

🙂
5-4-3 (T.M. Jcrags) is kinda fake .500.
Really 5-7.

7-5-2 sure. 16 points out of 14 games .

Just need the backup to NOT sink us.

What are you hoping for starts / points?

Old lehner and new lehner are different .
I never liked him, but I'm rooting for him to stay healthy and be happy with himself/ life.

Think ullmark is a top 4 goalie in the division?

Rask
Jarry
Hart
Samsonov
Valamov
Nyr tandem - shersterkin
*Blackwood

I have him ranked 5/7th out of 8 in the division

Samsonov and shersterkin havnt proved anything yet

- Boss34

Sure, but what has Ullmark proved?
I think he played ok last year, and it’s reasonable to think he can take a small step forward

Hutton is the big issue for me

Sorry I’m not Jason but I really don’t think he was all that bad as some think. As for Ullmark if they didn’t think he was the real deal they would have traded him or let him walk and went all in on a new goalie. They obviously have faith in this duo and in my opinion they are right on.
- Camel

Just bc they “have faith” doesn’t mean they’re correct to do so

That is correct. That is why if I was a GM I would rent. Who other than Craig Button or Brian Burke knows for sure.

Definitely a team game. Seems like alot of hope.

I really like ullmark, the Sabres have definitely taken the time and $ to groom him for this opportunity.

Just seems like we match up poorly in net.

Valarmov
Rask
Hart

Samsonov was a 1st
Jarry was a 2nd
Blackwood was a 2nd
Stechikov was a 4th

Ullmark a 6th

Draft status doesnt always matter but......

If I were a GM I would rent a home because my job would be very unstable. I can’t imagine the stress on these guys as every move can make you a hero or send you down the road kicking a coke can.

Cozens looked a little rusty out of the gate but he definitely shook the rust. His first goal looked like he was going around beer league guys

If and just if Hutton's eye issue was a legit thing and is fixed he can play 15 games and be fine as the back up if he returns to his previous form

My issue with Thompson is his hockey IQ...he has the tools but can he piece it together in the NHL?

I have seen and heard some guys talk about maybe Thompson on line one with Hall and Eichel and the problem with that to me is, can he elevate his play and can his brain keep up with those guys?

- Stripes77

The problem this season is all the back-to-back games. It forces your hand starting your back-up more than you probably would in a 56-game season. I would expect to see Hutton a minimum of 20 times this season, especially with Kreuger behind the bench. I wouldn't be shocked to see a 30-35 games from Ullmark, tops, especially if neither goalie gets hot.

Thompson is dumb, he is as smart as a 2x4. I don't have high hopes for him, but his size and power alone could mean we get lucky and get 15 goals from him.

Miami better not blow this. I think we can still beat Baltimore but I don't want them in the 1st round.

Perfect. I agree. The 3 year plan to get Ullmark ready. The balls in his court now.
They must have agreed he was their man and have stuck by that decision and I agree with it. In my own opinion if there was going to be a goaltending change it would have happened already. Having said that the leash will be short for both goalies and changes could happen.

- Camel

I think you're very optimistic with your take. Ullmark/Hutton was a very reasonable 3 year plan and they were both given ample opportunity to win the job long term.
Neither has. It was a conservative, low risk move (typical JB). Ullmark has been decent, and that's a problem. If he played worse, they'd already have moved on. If he was better, he wouldn't be a UFA at the end of the season.

There is 0 chance that their long term plan was Hutton. The plan was for Ullmark to be the number one as he will be this year. They are definitely taking a chance on him. In my own opinion as it has been all along Hutton as the backup will not be a problem at all.

That's where I disagree with you. It's the optimistic take. The preferable option really. The young guy improves and takes the job. Hutton outplaying him was a definite possibility. We're on option 3, neither have been particularly impressive and both are pending UFA's.

What JB's mindset was 3 years ago isn't really important, but he avoided making commitments as long as humanly possible. His Hutton/Ullmark + draft UPL was a very cheap plan that really didn't commit to anyone. KA punted things another year.

The fallacy of anyone arguing that the goalies aren’t that big of a problem is the assumption that Ullmark “gets better” or performs like a #1. Im with you, it’s overly optimistic
