Buddy, it's you who is obsessed with Larsson, like you are obsessed with Botterill.

Take out the name. We let go a top 10 defensive center, and acquired a maybe top 50 offensive center.

The idea that there's no recoil defensively, especially when the replacement is a bad like Eakin is just nonsensical

- sbroads24

Why did larrson only get a 1 year 1.4 million $ deal?

19-20 Staal as Minny’s top center - 869 min TOI 5 on 5 - 29 points

Larsson 774 TOI - 16 5 on 5 points

13 more points over 66 games

Larsson makes up that gap defensively

We maybe got better on PP2 though!!

- sbroads24

33 even strength points. 15 more even strength points than the career high of any kind of points for Larry.

Agree to disagree. Dear God it's enough about Larry already

I went to the mceichel game under coach bylsma . Larsson started the game. McDavid scored in under 10 seconds.

We were all mad that it wasnt eichel/ McDavid faceoff to start.

Remember this?

Amazing enough a great shut down line can still be scored on by the best offensive player in the league.

I’ll be damned

If I wanted to be a fan of a team that scored a bunch of goals and didn’t win crap because defence doesn’t matter I’d just root for the Leafs

Watch them win a few playoff rounds this year though and be due to “experience” and “culture” but not because they signed a top end transitional defender in TJ Brodie who can actually play defence.

Problem is:
I bring my average football opinion to a hockey board, I sit down at the games, but watch only the jumbotron.

Gurgs is really good on the jumbotron

Most scouts stay home to get a better look at talent, maybe arizona scouted via zoom?

Ok, then 18 for Larry at EV.

15 more in 100 more minutes.

If you want to call a statement ludicrous that's fine, just saying you're sick of hearing the name with no actual facts to back up that statement being ludicrous is....ludicrous

If we replaced Larsson with a competent to good defensive center, I'd would be in agreement that it was a nice upgrade.

Eakin is really, really bad.

That's why the original comparison was to Asplund not Eakin

Larry's can't live them , cant live without them.

I actually thought larry Larsson would be the guy we kept instead of larry locomotive.

The jumbotron doesnt lie.

Clearly the more talented teams move on from Larsson, but less talented teams (arizona) he's an upgrade.

So you are saying 5hat Shot Suppersion doesn't automatically result in shuting down goals.
I agree...it's a method, not a guarantee.
And, to date I have see zero evidence that Log actually stopped actual goals.
They suppressed shots and lowered XGA...Where is the presentation of actual goals being shut down?
I get the relationship, but not the steadfast claim as FACT that they shut down goals...
Else, similarily with their relatively high XGF and low actual goals they would all be 30 G scorers...yet they barely hit 30 combined

Flaccoville please admit that you remember the play I'm talking about. I think McDavid scored a couple seconds in vs. Larsson.

It was a terrible coaching decision. Disco Dan style

I was in the suite's, a 5%er watching the play live that evening

I do remember that actually. Vividly

I also remember being upset Eichel didn’t face off against McDavid either.

However I do agree with putting your top shutdown line against another teams offensive firepower in situations that dictate it.

You don't let facts and numbers get in the way of your dug in stance from 2017 when we all wanted him gone.

Uh, relative to their role, QoC, zone starts, they absolutely stopped actual goals.

I have said numerous times over the years I abhorred Larsson. He was the most boring player I have ever watched play hockey at any level. Why anyone on here is still talking about him is beyond me. He sucked. He sucked at sucking - At least MFE and Adam Mair played hard and gave effort. FFS I'd watch another 5 years of Peters and Scott before I would watch 1 more game of Larsson. He was terrible.
- 3rd GM's the charm

I agreed with you up until Peters and Scott. But everything else, dead on.

Larsson was just a body out there. Nothing else.

Here's a fun fact I'll leave you with:

Jeff Skinner scored more goals in '18-'19 than Johan Larsson did during his entire tenure as a Sabre

Yes, Jeff Skinner is a much better goal scorer than Larsson.

I’ve changed my mind, Larsson isn’t that good defensively after remembering that

What does that have to do with anything 2 different players.

Soooooo, if Larsson can grow into it...
I thought it was determined that Lazar can't.

Much to do about relatively nothing.... IMO, of course

In any event, it is what it is...I really don't want to go further either...I just hope to enjoy more exciting hockey...and I have very low expectations as far as results in the standings...so I'll take losing 5 - 4 rather than 2-1

Good post and I agree

I think ralph uses eichel in every possible situation. Jack leads the league in ice time. Eichel is THAT Good.

Normally I wouldn't suggest stars going head to head, but eichel has quietly evolved defensively. He's strives on man to man situations. That's all he has, with all the losing. Self motivation.

It also is a positive with ice time when he asks for a trade. Where would he get that much ice time , with nice guy ralph as his coach.
