I have never seen devotion by so many to a 1-dimensional player imo of course. He's a folk hero. Never seen anything like it. He didn't even hit or fight or win faceoffs or excel on the PK. He wasn't fun to watch. There is (imo) literally nothing remarkable about this player except for two lines on a graph which has led to an unbelievably strange cult following
- jcragcrumple

The LOG line was in fact good at flipping the ice and wasting 35 seconds 25 - 30 times per game...which when you consider the high Dzone starts and a low FO win rate is pretty amazing actually.

There is value there, I concede that... but my God they over play that hand, IMO.
Do something productive with it. Get Dmen who are actually good at defending, and the utility goes down versus a guy like Bonino who has an actual 2 way game. Saying the sky is falling because Johan friggin Larsson is gone, my god.

That is why the frustration of not moving Risto and Montour for guys who can actually excel at the defensive game is so frustrating to me. The friggin gyrations in roster composition due to that is unbelieveable.

Ryan Fitzpatrick tested positive for covid.

And Tua has never played in the cold or the snow per twitter today.

Sunday should be fun for the dolphins

Anybody got an insight as to what girardi brings to the table?
- IndianaSabresFan

Over-achiever who is dedicated to playing the game thd "right way".

It is a theme since Adams has taken over...the days of Nylander-sh players is gone.
Get involved, take your profession seriously, maximize your effort on and off the ice...you can see it through many moves...Quinn, Staal, Eakin, Ellis, etc.
Boss34 is right with many of his posts in this regard, although a bit over the top, lol.

Is not getting scored on by other teams top lines and forcing them to play in their own end not “doing something productive” ?

If the Bills force 3 and outs and don’t get scored on is that not impressive enough for you or is it only a good day at the office if they get a pick 6 ?

Get mad at the $9M left winger who scored 14
Goals. Not the depth center man that did his job but didn’t score enough to make up for the fact our one dimensional winger didn’t earn his paycheck.

Right, and I would assume the 3rd line will still get a ton of d-zone starts and d-zone usage unless they are going to put that responsibility on on the Eichel line so Eakin can play sheltered minutes ?

Skinner and Staal should get heavily o-zone sheltered minutes.

- Pegullaville

I would imagine exactly right..Eichel goes head to head a fair amount of time. Ralph has made a lot of statements about the need for everyone to play better without the puck...not just have 1 shut down line. He mentioned the several discussion and video sessions with Skinner in this regard and the fact that he finally saw Skins embrace it better late in the season.

This could give us a glimpse into Cozens perhaps moving up to 1st line and being a strong 2way player who can keep up with Hall/Skinner - Eichel

The comparison is not Larsson with Staal.

The comparison is with Eakin.

Staal will and should be compared to what Mojo provided last year.

But yea we get it defence doesn’t matter.

- Pegullaville

The comparison was with asplund: 🤔

Larry 1 and asplund

I get mad at the stupid friggin GM that:
Never addressed the 2C position properly over 2 seasons

I get real pissed by a Coach
Unhooked a 40G guy from the guy who got him there

I get real excited for a GM who found a terrific 2C in so, so many ways
Adding a real threat for another PPG player.

I get concerned about a coach who emp,9ys very questionable line combination and doesn't try obvious options

Larsson goes out on the ice and McDavid doesn’t score.

That’s good enough for me.

Our other 3 lines scoring on their other 3 lines is what is important

- Pegullaville

I went to the mceichel game under coach bylsma . Larsson started the game. McDavid scored in under 10 seconds.

We were all mad that it wasnt eichel/ McDavid faceoff to start.

Remember this?

The first Wonder Woman movie was very bad. But I admittedly did watch the entire thing.

Started watching WW1984. Couldn't even get past the first 20 minutes. Oh my god it was unbearable. Hollywood has become a parody of itself.

Gal Gadot is gorgeous but that woman couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag. Good grief.

That's absolutely preposterous.

Not only does adding Staal give us a 50 point (prorated to whatever, 37 point center), it's going to reinvigorate Skinner as well and make him look something like a real goal scorer.

Jesus christ the crying about Larry never ends. God speed in Arizona, Larry. Good luck with your Selke chase.

FFS people. We lost an 18 point center who sucked at the PK

- jcragcrumple

It's really not.

It's as simple as the Sabres getting better offensively and worse defensively, by a lot.

Larsson was a top defensive center, Eakin and Lazar are bad defensive centers, and Staal hasnt been good defensively in a few years.

There's also the fact that Staal is 100 years old, and has played like 5 games in almost a year. We have really no idea what we are getting or for how long in a condensed schedule.

But I know, he's a super cool name

You have all lost your damn minds. The guy was here since the first Obama term and never hit 20 points. Broads literally just said swapping Larsson for Staal is a net loss. I am all for advanced stats but this has entered the "chimera is a poor man's eichel" territory. Pure insanity.
- jcragcrumple

If Staal has even a slight drop off as he ages, it very well might be.

Buddy, it's you who is obsessed with Larsson, like you are obsessed with Botterill.

Take out the name. We let go a top 10 defensive center, and acquired a maybe top 50 offensive center.

The idea that there's no recoil defensively, especially when the replacement is a bad like Eakin is just nonsensical

I have said numerous times over the years I abhorred Larsson. He was the most boring player I have ever watched play hockey at any level. Why anyone on here is still talking about him is beyond me. He sucked. He sucked at sucking - At least MFE and Adam Mair played hard and gave effort. FFS I'd watch another 5 years of Peters and Scott before I would watch 1 more game of Larsson. He was terrible.

19-20 Staal as Minny’s top center - 869 min TOI 5 on 5 - 29 points

Larsson 774 TOI - 16 5 on 5 points

13 more points over 66 games

Larsson makes up that gap defensively

We maybe got better on PP2 though!!
