Then u have to say Eichel was part of the problem too
Your logic is FLAWED

Just bc a “team” is bad, doesn’t mean there aren’t good players on it
The LOG line was EFFECTIVE in its ROLE,
it’s been well documented
The Eichel line was also effective

The “results sucked” even though those 2 lines played well BECAUSE other 2 lines that were supposed to help with scoring let us down & barely did anything positive with their icetime

- jdfitz77

No I don't though. Eichel produced and the LOG line didn't.

You just can't have Larsson scoring 18 points in 14:54 ATOI while leading a historically bad PK. It's a recipe for failure.

The entire setup was a failure. It was a failed roster and it's why the GM is gone

Does Larry hop over the boards and dictate how many minutes he plays or does the coaching staff ?

The Skinner line and mixed bag 4th line is why we sucked.

The LOG line playing 10 minutes a night would be great with this new look top 6 we have.

Hopefully Lazar/Sheehan/Asplund can fill that role and they don’t miss a beat.

- Pegullaville

Lazar probably won't be as good at it initially, but he's close enough that he should prove very capable shortly (1 year-ish).
The need to get rid of Okposso's contract...signalling the end is near by placing him on the taxi squad should be the move. let whomever of Asplund and sheahan "grow into it" as well.

Let’s say the LOG line played 5min less a night, would we have won those games?
NOPE. We sure as sh!t wouldn’t have,
Bc the lines that would’ve taken their place couldn’t do much of anything positive

The “failed” part of the roster wasn’t the LOG line
It was the 2 lines that were supposed to provide secondary scoring but did not

The Sabres for a majority of the season were a top 7 team in the league in reducing high danger scoring chances.

If you look at each d-man individually and their respective underlying numbers that says everything I need to know about the LOG line.

- Pegullaville

I see we are now playing baseball.

That wasn't the question.

You're missing the broader picture and we're going in circles. The LOG line played too much because the roster sucked and the results sucked because no rational team in the western hemisphere is going to rely on Johan Larsson to play 15 minutes a night every night and expect to be good

Based on reading back ....

Losing Larson to free agency is worse than losing Eichel. I mean cry me a river.

Johan Larson is a dime a dozen 4th line player. Very easily replaceable. Which that did.

I think we all agree with that.

I don’t think anyone is arguing for the LOG line to play 15 minutes a night.

I happen to think defence is important and you have to win 2-1 games just like you win 5-4 games.

The LOG line playing 10 minutes a night though is great 5v5. However yes the PK was definitely an issue and they had their hand in the cookie jar there. Remains to be seen if it was personnel or coaching.

Did i EVER say they should play 15min a night?
NOPE- i sure didn’t

But YOU are blaming them for playing too much,
and that’s why we were 25th

So if they only played 10min a night,
would we have won more games or not?

The obvious answer is “No, we wouldn’t have”
Therefore, it’s NOT that line’s fault we were losing

It’s the fault of the 2 lines that were utterly useless

Those lines would’ve played more if the LOG line’s icetime was diminished,
AND WE STILL WOULD’VE LOST

Here is a whole article on the LOG line. I’m sure you’ll find your answer there. They had 35% o-zone starts and we’re one of the best lines in the entire league in shot suppression.

Does this answer your question ?

Yeah you did. You said they were good in their roles. That role was to play 15 minutes a night and the results sucked real bad

Ergo, not good at their role

If they played less,
we still would’ve lost.... true or false?

And as Pegulaville just showed above,
they were one of the best lines in the ENTIRE LEAGUE at shot suppression

It’s like u don’t understand there’s value in preventing goals

Idc what sport it is.

You need defence period.

Can score all you want but sooner or later you are going to get punched in the mouth and will have to grind one out.

That’s what separates the Lightning from teams like the Leafs and Panthers.

All 3 teams could score at will last season but only one team could defend with half a crap and had a goalie that didn’t kill them.

Also teams like the Stars, Isles, and Bluejackets that scored less than even the Sabres did last yeAr that all made the playoffs and did some relative damage.

Damn right I want to score 6 goals a game, who doesn’t. When push comes to shove though the teams that have the capability of scoring 4-5 goals a game that are able to adapt and win the 2-1 games are the teams that play late into June.

Impossible to say because it didn't happen.

What I do know is that the philosophy of the roster build and usage was an abject failure and that's why they went in a different direction

That’s utterly moronic

And you absolutely do not KNOW why Larsson isn’t still here
It’s entirely possible he just didn’t wanna be here anymore

Did u talk to Larsson?
Did u talk to Adams?
I had no idea u were such an “insider”

Well the “insider” Crags clearly doesn’t think defense matters
Now that Larson isn’t playing 15min a night anymore, we’ll win the cup I’m sure (sarcasm)

I suppose some ppl just don’t get it

I read the post from his brother who said Larsson liked it here and the Sabres never gave him an offer this offseason

Please let us know INSIDER

- jdfitz77

I just told you, his brother posted on Instagram or Twitter that the Sabres didn't give him an offer. It was well covered at the time

I misread what u wrote

A guy can wanna move on to another organization,
yet still appreciate his time in Buffalo dude

Your evidence is circumstantial at best

Funny how u continue to not reply about how good the LOG line was at shot suppression though

Does defense not matter to you?

Maybe you'll accept it directly from Larsson’s mouth

Well if we didn’t want him back, that was dumb

I guess that line being so good at shot suppression didn’t matter to you or Adams

So apparently special teams don’t count,
and now neither does defense
