Staal and Larry two totally different steps on the ladder.
- Buff36

Staal can play minutes commensurate with his talent level, which in turn will relegate the Larrys back to their proper place. The numbers suggest Larsson is vastly superior defensively to Eakin and Lazar.

I still think having an actual 2C will show the folly of relying on Larry hockey 15 minutes a game which got us to 25th place.

Time will tell. Larry can definitely run and stop the run. I dont think the Sabres are playing frank gore football anymore though

I know Mitts performed exceedingly well in his WJ20 tourney, so there is that to temper over the top excitement, but dare we think with the combined performances of Cozens, Quinn, Johnson and Peterka against their peer group that the Sabres pipeline could be in good stead with these guys coming up in a couple years!
Good news brewing....Adams' team may have hit it out of the park with Quinn and Peterka ... and Botts the same with Cozens and Johnson.

I'll take it.

I thought I heard the pegulas were paying for some sort of covid testing ? Not sure if it was above and beyond other owner's? It was implied to me anyways.... that the were doing something good.

Any chance to bash the pegula's, you were ready to jump on quickly.
🛎

They are similar to referree's. Always criticized but, when they do a good job with something, its "expected" 🤔

- Boss34

You're giving them credit for something either

A. The NFL mandated all teams follow

or

B. Something they didn't do

So what exactly did they do a good job with as it pertains to Covid?

That's exactly who I'm taking

(My son not yours🙂) 🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎 Good stuff 36 👍

Its already been determined.
Brought him to the Pat's game last year at home
And lambeau the year before

I'm pumped, but I think I'll be game 2 bound, with my seniority.

Having Eric staal on this roster (a good 2C) is more important than having Larry.

We had Larry last year and sucked and have needed a 2C since ROR

- Sabretooth9

Why is it a 1 or the other scenario??
Easily could’ve had both Staal & Larsson

Always good to have a defensive forward on the team, and him dropping to where he belonged is a good thing.

You can easily fine another Larson or a depth player. Finding that 2C is much harder and provides way more way.

Well if Okposo and Girgensons are everything this board believes they are defensively, then that $9+ mil tandem should be able to make Sheahan/Lazar/Asplund/Ruotsalainen look good

A drafted prospect or draft eligible player can make or break their careers at the world juniors. It’s the best of the best from Aron d the world.

Mitts dominated at the world juniors and was the number 1 prospect after that. Who really freaking knows what happened to mitts. Is he fat. Is he lazy. Who knows.

But it’s good to see prospects at the world juniors playing well

We weren’t 25th bc of Larsson

Poor Goaltending & lack of secondary scoring is what killed us
Larson’s line wasn’t there for scoring, it’s the other 2 that let us down again

Cozens’ entire body of work suggests a high end player. He was great in the Hlinka last year, last years WJC, and this years to start and was 2nd in the entire WHL in PPG this past season.

Mitts had an epic WJC tourney but was average to below average at the college level. I admit I got fooled and drank the koolaid.

Peterka was great at last years tournament too but it was fair to say if he was a product of Stutzle and Reichel. This year Reichel couldn’t play due to Covid (17th OA to Chicago this year) and Peterka has just taken it to another level. He’s also had several highlight reel plays in the Austrian league this year.

Quinn is an interesting case. He was benched for almost the whole 2nd period yesterday and relegated back to 13th forward yet in the minutes he played finished with two assists. 52 goals in the OHL is no fluke and I’m rooting for him but my preferences were Rossi and Lundell. Quinn definitely has the defensive and positioning down Pat so he should be an NHL’er forsure I just question how high his upside is.

Larry hockey was a failure. The page has turned. The Sabres now resemble a team that is built correctly in its 4 lines. I heard a lot about how indispensable Girgensons and Okposo were last year and now they'll have a chance to elevate the game of a new Larry, probably not for 14 minutes a night though

Curious, which numbers specifically show he is vastly superior?

From Hockey Writers
https://thehockeywriters....season-analytics-forwards/

Top-5 Defensive Forwards
The top-5 defensive forwards were less predictable than the offensive forwards. Combining even-strength and penalty kill, the forwards finished Larsson (25), Girgensons (20), Vesey (19), Asplund (18) and Okposo and Lazar tied (17).

The LOG line wasn’t a huge surprise here. I don’t think I would have predicted Asplund and Lazar being as impactful as they were.

The above analysis was based on the following on-ice stats from Evolving Hockey:
-goals for and against (GF/GA),
-shots for and against (SF/SA),
-shot attempts for and against (CF/CA), and
-quality of scoring chances for and against (xGF/xGA).

We will look at the top five forwards in each category and award points based on where they finish (first is five points, second is four points, etc).

Moving the goalposts doesn’t make u any more correct

And it’s YOU who can’t stop talking about “Larry”

Also....
who EXACTLY said Girgs & Okposo were “indispensable” dude?

You’re literally just making crap up
Why?

Buddy, I was responding to a comment about how we could really use Larry this year. Check a page back.

You're on the record as a staunch Girgensons and Okposo supporter. Surely Curly and Moe can overcome the loss of Larry. Sheahan will be a fine Shemp

To be honest , I can't find anything on line anywhere.

I must have misunderstood? I thought they were shipping the covid test to NJ and doing something above and beyond other owners.

You were %100 correct, that indeed they were just doing their jobs as owners.

Apologies for the B.S.

The LOG line was really good defensively
Idk how they’ll be with a different center

And i NEVER said either was “indispensable”
And neither did anyone else

Your over exaggerating is pointless
And blaming the 25th place finish on Larsson,
is even more of that ridiculousness

No it was if Asplund could turn into another Larry, which wouldn't be a bad thing, hopefully a little more offense. And we will see if Larry is missed very soon.
