They do take that into account

High danger versus not so much

This division is tougher for the Sabres, the only team they dodged is Tampa...

- Stripes77

The shooter

Does it take that into account

Odds are if one of those high scoring players from the bolts or bruins are taking the shot, it's probably a better shot then if Simmonds is taking the shot for the devil's

I count 6-9-1 versus our present division foes including zero wins vs Bruins, Flyers and Isles.

And a quick count had them 12-9-4 vs. the rest of the conference

- Michael Pachla

The Islanders scored 3 goals in two games vs us
We scored 2

It's realistic to think adding Hall and the series could go either way as a pessimist

With this team as is, I think it's gonna take a Herculean effort and more than a bit of luck in addition to a healthy starting roster.

Soderberg got 1 year 1M AAV.

koekkoek got one year $800K.

Both options better than Eakin and Irwin/Davidson respectfully.

Hate to see it

The Sabres identified the players they wanted immediately. I give them credit for their conviction. The time for 2nd guessing their decisions will be after the season.

Plus, you're seeing bargain signings now, because players know it's now or never.

does fancy stats tell you if you are getting shots from the big guys on the bruins or tampa, as opposed to shots from guys on the devils?

I don't think they take any of that into account

we matched up against the caps, islanders, pens and devils much better then the teams we had in our division last season IMO

- homiedclown

They do.

Ullmark and Hutton were both absolutely brutal against scoring chances.

When/If the Sabres open it up to try and score more the Goalies are going to kill us

Yes they do.

The Sabres were among the league's best, although it slipped the last month of the season due to the horrendous play of the Montour - Ristolainen pair, at limiting high danger chances.

Their goaltenders, both of them, were near the bottom of the league at stopping the high danger chances.

The bold above is zero surprise, and quality management would have planned for that, which is why it's sadly unsurprising that they low balled some players and overpaid others.

Another hot start this year is gonna go a long way. However, it might be very difficult as teams will need to be in playoff-mode out of the gate in a 56-game season
- Michael Pachla

I’m with ya
A good start is imperative
And with no wiggle room, going with Ullmark & Hutton worries me

carter hart .914 save % last year

possibly best goalie in division

ullmark .915 save % last year

dog crap

- homiedclown

We played a defensive style to help shelter our goalies
Philly pushed tempo up the ice offensively

BIG difference Homie

Should make a deal with the Yotes for Kuemper or Ranta.....but I don't think they want Hutton in return......

Why are u replacing the best teams in our old division with the worst teams from our new one?

This division is MUCH tougher than last year’s for us

Boston = Boston
Tampa = Washington
Toronto < Philly
Florida < Pittsburgh
Montreal < Ny Isles
Detroit < Ny Ranges
Ottawa = Jersey

- homiedclown

I think so too. Sabres should be better than NJ and nyr.

Even with Pittsburgh, isles and flyers
Make it interesting anyways

Rock solid post

Let's see where it all shakes out.

Same for signing the locomotive, easy to criticize after the market settled a bit. Ufa's are always difficult to put a true $ sign on.

You sign the guys you like.
Kudo's for the Sabres having a plan and signing THEIR targeted free agents.

Raanta would be nice, Kuemper would be GREAT
Since their main reason for moving either is financial, i don’t think they’d want anything back besides picks &/or prospects

Maybe we could ship Hutton to Chicago & give them a pick to take him?

Plus we have no idea if guys like Soderberg (or whoever) would even wanna come here?

It’s not like the Sabres are a “destination” that UFAs wanna come to

Great point

In imaginary land, we sign free agents for less, because they want to help break the 9 year playoff drought.

Buffatax is real, until we start winning.

The Bill's are gonna be a spot that guys look at : to win a championship. Mcbeane seem like guys you would want to get behind and be part of big plans

Good fitz : although I think
Bruins = Bruins
Tampa = not Washington
Toronto = better than Philadelphia ( to make a playoff spot)
Florida < pitt
Habs < isles
Detroit < nyr
Ottawa > nj

Ottawa is gonna be a force for years to come.
Although this year, probably slightly better than NJ

So an ovi point blank shot on the devil's goalie is weighted much higher then a girgens point blank shot?

Caps on a decline
Pens decline
Islanders meh

I would rather play teams like that then leafs, bolts and Panthers

Plus games last year were.much closer vs new division rivals then the old ones

Plus we are a much better team by subtraction alone, let alone adding Hall

Did any of these new division teams add a hall?

How much better we are remains to be seen

Without a goaltending upgrade, idk that we’ve closed the gap between us and those good teams u think are declining

None of those teams “added a Hall” bc they already had Ovechkin, Backstrom, Kuznetsov, Oshie, etc... and the Pens have a ton of high end forwards as well- they did add Zucker late last year, PLUS they kept E Rod 😂😂😂

Our top6 is NOT better than either of those teams
Probably better than the Isles,
but they have 3lines that score & play good defense

Your optimism came true with the Bills,
so hopefully you’re right about the Sabres too

I’ve just gotta see more- particularly a goaltending upgrade- before I’ll be on board like you are
Get me Kuemper & i think we make the playoffs
I think we fall short of we stick with what we have now though

Eh, I think the Sabres top-6 is better than the Pens. Definitely better wingers. Malkin > Staal obviously. I suppose I'm supposed to say Crosby is still better than Eichel but it's close
