I think clubs weaponizing LTIR to exceed the cap already creates a system of haves and have-nots. Legalizing it via a luxury tax just puts money in the have-nots pockets (see homie's post)
- jcragcrumple

I don't see the big deal myself. Be it LTIR or Luxury Tax the effect is the same; Cap Spend overages.
The pittance that is redistributed to Owners is negligible on a per team basis.

There is a good concept to grow the game by using some of the funds for that Express purpose...but I wonder how effective that Growth initiative actually is.

The NHL could borrow that concept by taxing the amount of Cap Overage that LTIR provides.
Erase $9m in Cap...pay 25% of it to the league to grow the sport.

YUGE.

"Casey Nelson has reportedly opted out of the 2020-21 season, according to TSN's Darren Dreger. Nelson signed a one-year, $700,000 deal with Buffalo on Oct. 22 after he spent the 2019-20 season with the Rochester Americans of the AHL. He notched four goals and 12 points in 48 games with the Sabres' top minor-league affiliate. Nelson earned one goal and five assists in 38 appearances with Buffalo during the 2018-19 campaign"

The Canadiens announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Corey Perry on a one-year contract. The deal has a value of $750,000.

that's a third line value contract right there

if you have a luxury tax, all the big time owners will be spending like crazy and you will see it revert back to the early 2000's where teams like the rangers, leafs, habs etc spend to insane levels

at least 2/3 of the teams would spend at the break even point and use the tax collected as their profit and the league would be much more unbalanced then it currently stands IMO

josh gets 250 yards in the first half

heavy dose of the running game in the second half and we get the backups in the 4th quarter for mop up duty

Cozens also had a really nice assist on Canada’s 2nd goal.

Quinn and cozens had good games too.

Team Canada USA and this world junior tournament this year has tons of good players ..... but missing that one great amazing Eichel / Mcdavid type player that takes it over.

- Sabretooth9

What I will say about Quinn is that he does have good hockey IQ. He’s in the right spots at the right times defensively and has an active stick. That alone will make him an NHL player at some point. He has been very good defensively so far in the tournament.

I just don’t know how high his offensive upside is. Yes he scored 52 goals in the OHL this year but was that an outlier ? He’s only had one good year of production and he was the oldest player available in this years draft class.

I am hoping for more than a 3rd line winger with the 8th overall pick

You mean the Sabres could have added him for the amount they overpaid Girgensons by?

🙋‍♂️

Girgensons wanted to play in buffalo, Perry probably not.

And you would rather have Perry than girgensons?

Draft baker josh sucks
Cut bass he had a bad week 3 as a rookie kicker
Perry over girgensons

Hot takes
Hot air

In his defense, reportedly last offseason was the 1st year he dedicated himself to hockey only and specifically trained for it rather than play other sports in the offseason. Assuming that is true maybe his development curve will be more steep.. we can hope anyway.

Plenty of that going around.

The Sabres and Bills have the only fan bases that obsess over every single move other teams make, like we could and should have been in on all of them.

Just kidding with you ion. 🙄

Perry over girgensons, maybe 5 years ago.

The locomotive is a key component this season in the Sabres success.

Anybody watch "The Crown" on Netflix ? Man that's a good show - just finished season 4 (now we have to wait until 2022 for season 5 ! Ugh). The Princess Diana stuff is just so .... effing tragic ! All so avoidable ... it was all such BS. And they haven't even gotten to the worst, most tragic part yet - which I'm sure all of season 5 will be about. Anyway, great show. Really enjoyed it from the beginning - learning about King George, his brother, Queen Elizabeth, Princess Margaret, the Duke of Edinburgh, Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher...all of it so interesting ! Really learned a lot watching this series.
