Smart teams find ways to make fitting in good players work. Will the Sabres ever be one of those smart teams?

STL has Steen/Tarasenko going on LTIR...I can see this being smart cap gymnastics.

It's easy to call them "smart teams" when the player actually WANTS to play for them.

The @TBLightning trade Braydon Coburn, Cedric Paquette and a second-round draft pick in 2022 to @Senators for Marian Gaborik (LTIR player) and Anders Nilsson.

JFC!!

In their media release, the @TBLightning announce Marian Gaborik and Anders Nilsson will not play this season. Both on LTIR, which will allow TB to be cap compliant

Cozens with a really nice stretch pass to help Canada go up 2-0

Quinn scored an empty netter. When the game was 2-1. So he made it 3-1

Quinn and cozens played good games nothing crazy great.

Toronto did it last year...?

Seems like a different team does it every offseason.

They should go with the luxury tax approach and stop with the fake cap nonsense.

If the Sabres were making $ , the pegulas would be all over eating contracts ect.

If we make a run for a couple years, seems like smart business

Do we want the Titans to win tonight?
- jcragcrumple

Why In the world would be want the Titans to win tonight? We want them to lose, so, if we beat NE tomorrow the worst we could finish is the #3 seed. We then couldn’t possibly play KC until the AFC championship game. If we eat Miami we’re #2 and play Pittsburgh Steelers home in playoff game #2 if both teams win and if we lose to Miami we play Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh if both teams win or at home
If Pittsburgh gets knocked out in rd 1 (highly possible)

So we want titans to lose tonight and buffalo to win tomorrow and we’re sitting pretty. We also will play our starters all game vs Miami next week to try to get the 2 seed.

Marleau was a healthy player and they didn't activate a 10m player for the playoffs.

TB is pushing things on both ends.

They didn't trade for David Clarkson's contract before the 19-20 season to add more LTIR to be able to sign Marner?

Sounds right. I think that ended up being irrelevant because Marner didn't hold out.

Once you use LTIR, you might as well use a ton of it. It could use some work.

they gave up a 4th line player and a second rd pick to be under the cap

it's not as bad as an allergic reaction to uniform

They couldn't sign Marner until they had the added LTIR buffer. It's a big part of the reason Marner didn't sign until September.

They took on an additional $4M to add to the $3.3M they gave up in Coburn and Paquette to put all $7M+ on LTIR to make space for all their players.

It's a joke.

Totally legal though, unless/until the league says players on ltir can’t be traded.

I recall it as protection in case he didn't sign before the season started. I don't remember how it played out very well.

Kucherov suddenly being healthy right when the playoffs start is the most offensive part to me, and something the NHL should have a big problem with.

Okay this is getting ridiculous, 100% cap circumvention and the NHL should step in but it's a Busch league and will look the other way. Just like they do with Bettman's Parkinson's disease. Seriously, he shakes more than a gay guy shakes his own wiener after peeing.

I’m sure it was mentioned here before, but having players on LTIR they can be activated for playoffs with no cap hit, I believe (if only activated for playoffs). Just the loop holes. Tough to see the top money teams be able to do that. Cost them a second round pick and cash / LTIR hit. So not that much to pay great players below average (due to taxes, it’s more) and trade away “bad cap” players for a 2nd. Sad.
