Its quite common for US students studying abroad in western Europe and of course the Mid East, to describe themselves as Canadian.

And despite some other comment earlier about the NHL being an “American enterprise”. WTF?

The NHL is a business that relies mainly on making the US dollar. It wouldn't be in business at its scale without it. It would just be another sport played by a few within a limited region, akin to Irish hurling. Why do you think a majority of the league's expansion since the 1990's has been in the US? That's where the money is. To believe otherwise would be just deluding oneself.
