Yeah, it totally is an indicator... That one of those guys plays for Tampa, and the other plays for the leafs.

Meanwhile, your bit about Nylander only producing more than Cirelli because of linemate quality is supposed to stick...

Oof indeed.

- joel878

Valeri Nichushkin was a +26, Auston Matthews was only a +19.

It's obvious who the better play was last year.

Cirelli +28
Marner +6

So by your logic, Cirelli is better than Marner..

that overpaid hack, firkin Marner

- PatC80

He's pretty good!

Not better than Mitch, but they'd be a good duo

I know you're an outsider, and you don't understand the nuances of my writting style, or that Zezel and I chirp each other for laughs.

But can you please get with the program? This constant Richard-swinging competition youre trying to engage in is very elementary.

why dont you just talk to your buddy Santo(lol) and Shack? Whats your constant need for validation from me?

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Doesn't get much better than this!

I said +/- is an indicator.

I don't know bud, 28-6? That's a huge gap.. It's not even close..
Marner is slightly better than Nylander, but no where close to as good as Cirelli is.

I bet if the Leafs got Ryan Graves, they would instantly be Cup contenders

I think plus/minus is one of, if not, the most meaningless stat in all of hockey..

I was talking about why a trade would make sense. Leafs need players who are reliable defensively. Thats what i was pointing out.

Its trendy to disrespect the +/- since the emergence of analytics.

But its more useful than you think, and its an indicator stat. You need to know how to interpret it.

Meanwhile modern analytics are trash. Reputable hockey analysts wont touch them for good reason. Its all teenager on twitter who don't even watch the game who love to toss around graphs and charts.

that's fine.. I think a guy like Cirelli would help the Leafs, heck, I think he'd be helpful on every team. I won't argue that.

Both Nylander and Cirelli averaged over 18 minutes of ice time a game. I still wouldn't trade Nylander for Cirelli

It can indicate if you're on a bad team (like anyone on the Detroit Red Wings) or a good team (like on Tampa Bay). I would still take Dylan Larkin over Tyler Johnson

You have to know how to interpret it.

It's not a cut and dry statistic.

Of course Larkin>Johnson.

that's the thing, there are so many ways to interpret it. So, it's not a very useful stat.

Ovechkin had 48 goals and was a -12

- PatC80

Was Ovi getting only d-zone starts? Was the defence and goaltending good? Was he being matched up vs the opposing teams top line?

All factors. These are situations Cirelli was being called upon for. Willy not so much.

I shouldn't make fun of baseball since I watch both snooker and chess, but baseball is just insanely boring for me.

Snooker is fun but I love watching the trick shot guys. They do insane poop.

you're like one of those teenaged girls on twitter who worship analytics because they're trying to sound smart, and they reject the stats being used for half a century because its not trendy.

no stats are perfect, just indicators. But i guess you know more than all the hockey analysts like Bob MacKenzie who use +/-

Its not like its a small gap between the two, its a massive difference.

ooof!

Tampa is currently 6.1M OVER the cap with Cirelli left to sign.

So which dumbass team is gonna help those (frank)ers out of this?
